My wife and I stayed at Holley House for four nights in November. Our room had a king-size bed with an ensuite bathroom. The bathroom had both a tub and a walk-in shower with power jets on the wall. The bed was nice and firm, just the way we like it. The room had ample closet space and hangers for our clothes and the bathroom was spacious and well appointed. The bedroom is nicely furnished and typical of English bedrooms in that there is room for the bed but not for a sitting area. Noeline and Denis, our gracious hosts, told us that they planned to convert the conservatory into a guest lounge in the near future. They also plan to replace the TV in the guest bedrooms with new flat screen TVs.
Each morning Noeline prepared a continental breakfast for us, and no one could leave her table hungry. There was grapefruit, a different selection of fresh breads each day and a wide choice of cereals (including hot porridge if you want it), jams and preserves, yogurt and fruit. What more could you ask? Well, the icing on the cake of Noeline’s attention to her guests is that each evening she gave us a sweet treat to eat with our cup of tea or coffee that we made in our room and a bottle of beer and wine to help calm us down after a long day. Again, what more could you ask?
Noeline does not yet have a wireless router, but she did give us free use of her own computer to access the internet.
Holley House is located in Lowton, which is a pleasant village close to the East Lancashire Road (A580), mid way between Manchester and Liverpool. Access to the M6 motorway is less than 5 minutes by car. Lowton is not a tourist town, so most guests of the B&B are visiting the area on business or visiting relatives, as we were. About 10-15 mins walk from the B&B, in the centre of Lowton village, the Hare and Hounds has an excellent pub menu and a good choice of beers.
If you need to be in the Liverpool/Manchester corridor and don’t want to be in a faceless hotel, then it is hard to imagine a better choice than Holley House. It might also work as a base for tourists wanting to explore the Northwest of England because it is so close to the M6 and A580.
