“Tired and Tiny Rooms”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2014

Some positives about the hotel. The lobby area is nicely refurbished and the reception staff are very pleasant and professional. Location is decent too.

The problem is the rooms. Absolutely tiny, with no space for anything but the bed and in serious need of refurbishment. Noisy too in the downstairs corridor - I was woken each day by housekeeping staff having a natter and some people outside who were there for some kind of meeting.

Overall, I couldn't wait to check out and move to the Park Royal

Room Tip: avoid ground floor

As I find with most Best Westerns the staff are friendly and efficient, check in is hassle free and there is free wi-fi

But, the rooms are in need of updating, they look tired and are definitely past their best.

In the last room I had here the bathroom had been updated and was quite modern, but the room itself and the bed most definitely hadn't! In fact it only had the effect of highlighting how dated the bedroom looked.

Ate in the bar on both evenings, the food was surprisingly good had a great Cajun chicken burger, the staff were great and nothing was too much trouble.

Dear Lovetoski1971
Thank you for your recent review. We are constantly updating facilities and have recently finished a further five brand new bathrooms. Such work is ongoing and i am sorry you felt the facilities were dated. I am delighted you noted the friendly efficient staff and your kind words regarding the dinner will be well received by the Chefs who have recently won an AA rosette award for food quality.
Thank you once again for your review

Really nice lobby, friendly check in, open the doors to the corridor leading to rooms and there is a very strange musty smell. My room was a double, but only just. There was about a foot either side of the bed. There is a heat wave at the moment, a fan would have been a better than nothing option as there is no AC. I woke up at about 5.30am in a boiling hot room, and discovered the heating had come on, and no way of switching it off. Needless to say I checked out early and reported the heating issue. All that was said was "I bet you were sweltering" and a giggle how do you respond to that? On a positive there is AC at breakfast, and the food was ok.

Dear MMB Yorkshire
Thank you for your recent review, I am delighted you found the hotels public areas and restaurant so nice and the team friendly. You are quite right we were enjoying a mini heat wave and this does make bedrooms hot. Our heating is 'centrally controlled' and i can assure you we do not have and have not had the heating on for some time. The only heat source in any bedrooms are the individually controlled towel rails which are independently switched from the bathroom door.
Once again many thanks for taking the time to review the hotel

We selected this hotel as we wanted a hotel close to Knutsford so we could easily get to the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park. The Fir Grove hotel was very convenient and has the real benefit of being located in a quiet residential area so enabling a good nights rest before the rigours of a hot day at the Flower Show. It only took us half an hour, with some traffic queuing, to drive to the show.

Just attended our company's pensioners summer lunch. The food, service, choice was as usual excellent. We have attended these functions here for the last two years. The meals have always been excellently presented, and the service second to non. If you are in the area and can go to the restaraunt, then do so. You will not be disappointed. I can highly recommend it.

Room Tip: As we have never stayed in the hotel overnight I cannot say, but if the level so service received in...

This is an amazing hotel and following our recent stay we have decided to hold our wedding here. We feel so lucky to have found such a wonderful hotel with such welcoming and attentive staff!
The hotel has contemporary decor throughout and the function rooms are spacious and well laid out. The bedrooms and very comfy, clean and well equipped.
The staff members really make this hotel exceptional as they will go above and beyond and are all extremely friendly and helpful at all times.
The food at the hotel is first class and the breakfast is plentiful. Staff members are always available during meal times to ensure everything is ok.
The managers at the hotel are always visible and endeavour to make your stay excellent.
I have recently returned to the hotel for a meal with my family. The meal was excellent and all staff took the time to welcome us and ensure that we were enjoying our evening.
Thank you to every staff member at the Fir Grove for our wonderful recent visits. We cannot wait to hold our wedding day at your hotel!

Travelled from Cambridgeshire to Widnes for a business meeting and was booked into here by work. Usually have Premier inn or likewise, so pleasant surprise. From arrival to booking out had absolutely nothing to complain about!! The receptionist was charming and helpful, the room ideal for a short stay, clean, nicely decorated and on the ground floor!! With a lovely bath (ideal after a 4 1/2 hour drive), or shower (really got me awake the following morning) both very refreshing.. Ate out on a business dinner that evening, (see review for The little Manor, Thelwall Village) but slept like a log when I got back, and I never sleep in hotels ever!! and had a really good breakfast the following day, full English buffet, but not greasy or cold, well presented, great variety, nice staff, well cooked. All in all a really comfortable place to stay for any occasion, well recommended..

Room Tip: Make a good weekend away for couples
