This is the first time I've been to Walton Gardens and I had heard good things about it so I was looking forward to taking my 2 year old.

Firstly, the place does look impressive as you walk in. The bridge into the play area over the canal and the small walled off garden area give a great impression and are very well kept.

My main problem is with the play area. There's lots to do for the kids, of all ages, but I was really concerned how dirty my daughter was getting from just being on the slide. I understand there was a lot of people there (Good Friday) but I've been to similar places with just as much footfall and she's not walked away with jet black hands after only a few minutes of play.

The children's zoo also is an issue to me. I'd just like to clarify that the animals look healthy and well looked after so that is not a problem. My problem lies with the width of the paths when negotiating the zoo. Busy or not, it's difficult for people to pass with kids and prams so people are bumping into you and generally getting in your way and it's not necessarily their fault. Again, it didn't feel very clean either around the zoo area.

I have to say that the Heritage Cafe was amazing though. The food and drink were all reasonably priced and served promptly despite how busy it was. The girls who were working there were friendly and helpful and a credit to the Gardens.

We have been coming here for years and there is always so much to do. The gardens are beautiful. The only downside is the parking fee which is extortionate

It’s so beautiful and amazing. The gardens are a great place to have pick nicks and the park is great for the kids 6 and 9. The farm is amazing as the animals are not smelly and fun to interact with. And it’s freeeeee!!! I will definitely be going again.

We have been going here for over 15 years
It’s beautifully maintained
The family has grown up going here
There is a food festival on this weekend lots of great stalls and cheery stall holders
Slightly pricey things but we bought fudge honey pork pies vegan pies
Cakes
products made from honey
Chutneys
We had a great morning there
Then we had a mooch around the animals and birds so relaxing
The playground was busy its well looked after all the equipment seems safe and age appropriate
Summer is the best time to go take a blanket and a picnic
There’s no traffic and you can let the children run free from pollution
You can spend very little money and
Have a great day out

Beautiful gardens, brilliant play facilities for children, great area with wildlife - pigs, goats, squirrels, donkeys - and many more! Space for kids to run and play - and it's free entry! Parking is the only cost (other than refreshments and the train), well worth a visit!
