Have just stayed at this hotel on the gold card deal and was very happy. Rooms very comfortable . Found staff very helpful and friendly. Meals in the restaurant were hot and very tasty and the staff very good . The bar at the hotel is very popular with locals so gets very busy but shows it must be well liked. Breakfast well organised with you getting cereals yourself but English breakfast served to the table. Breakfast was very good and you get a choice from the menu. All in a very enjoyable stay and would recommend

me and my husband came for a two night stay with the gold voucher offer and I was pleasantly surprised. The room was basic but served its purpose and the bed was comfortable. The staff were all very helpful and the food was extremely tasty. The menu was split over two days which was also nice. My only criticism is that the veg tended to be undercooked but apart from that I would highly recommend this hotel.

We chose to stay at the George Hotel for one night because it was very near Benson ,where the LeBoat marina is located, there we were to board our rented boat for a week's cruise on the thames river. We landed at Heathrow at 13.00 and waited 4 hours to get the car we had rented from Europcar. We left the Europcar parking with the car at 17.00. As the weather was glorious and we had plenty of time, we decided to leave the highway and go to the hotel, less than an hour's drive away, by smaller roads and enjoy the english countryside. After 45 minutes' drive we had a flat tire. That's when the nightmare begins! After pulling out all our luggage, we were two couples going to spend a week on the water, which means lots of warm bulky stuff, we discovered, to our utter amazement, that there is no spare wheel !! We called Europcar and they told us that help would reach us within the hour. We were stranded in the middle of nowhere, we could not abandon the car and it was getting dark and cold. After numerous calls and hours, there arrived a huge truck who's driver told us that the car would be hauled to our hotel. Somehow we managed to climb aboard and were hauled to the hotel by roundabout roads, because of the truck 's size. We reached the hotel at midnight, where the truck lowered and drove the car (still with a flat tyre) to the hotel parking lot, promising that it would be taken care of in the morning.
And now Paradise! There are no words to describe how nice and helpful the members of the staff were. The restaurant was already closed but the nice lady who greeted us didn't give up, and went to the chinese place nearby hoping it would still be open ,and she managed to get us a nice warm meal, which we ate in the heated courtyard. We were so exhausted that none of us registered her name, so if anybody at the George reads this review, just know that we are so very grateful . The rooms were nice and comfortable and we slept deeply.
The buffet breakfast was excellent, with ordered omelets. We regret that we didn't get to have dinner there, as we had planned, and we didn't visit the haunted room for lack of time, but as we travel to the U.K. frequently, we will definitely go back on our next visit.
In the morning another huge truck came and hauled the car away. We needed the car to buy our supplies for the boat, and drive to the marina, but there was no car ,so we used taxis.
Our credit card was charged with 248 pounds for the tyre and, to our choc, 345 pounds for the hauling truck. All because of a flat tyre and lack of spare tyre!!! They tell us this is the policy of the company in europe.
So, this is a message to our fellow travelers, not only ckeck and double check before you give your credit card no. by then it's too late, y're a captif customer, but read the small print carefully.
thanks again to the charming George Hotel and its staff

My wife and I stayed over last weekend on a Gold Voucher £129 for two people break which included breakfast and a three course meal each evening. I agree wholeheartedly with the last reviewer - the rooms were clean and very comfortable, the staff were exceptionally helpful and the food was hot and well presented. I can only think that the earlier complainer stayed at a different hotel or was just a professional "whinger". For the price, the break was fantastic value and I really could not fault any aspect of the stay.

Room Tip: We had room 208 in the newer part of the building. The ONLY con was the ancient television which (n...

We had our wedding here as guests came in from all over the world, including us - we live in Germany but had stayed here before.
The hotel itself is charming, oozing with history. However, I want to talk about the staff here, as it is the people who make a place...Sarah and her team are fantastic. Everyone bent over backwards to make our stay and wedding day fantastic - these guys know how to do hospitality with a capital H.
We all indulged in the cooked-to-order breakfast; the professional caterer in our party complimented the food - high praise indeed.
If you want to stay in a quaint hotel, in a quintessentially English town with super-friendly staff, the the George is the place for you.

This 2 night stay was booked by our friends, when we read the reports about the food being terrible we were a bit worried but as the 2 nights with dinner had been really cheap we decided to make our own minds up about the food & if it was that bad we would just eat out, after all the deal was very good even if it had just been B & B.
We arrived early & our rooms were ready so we were booked in.
The rooms were really nice with everything you could want, safe, iron & board, trouser press, Dove shower on the wall & very high quality toilet rolls, not the paper thin stuff you get in some hotels, it was also nice & warm & clean.
So far we were impressed.
That night we went for evening meal wondering what we were going to get, I can only say that the previous people must have been staying at a different hotel, our food was fine tasty & hot
We have travelled all over the world & although the food was not 5 star it was certainly nice.
The staff here go out of their way to be accomodating & we had a laugh with most of them including the senior housekeeper as mentioned in a previous review was great.
I would like to thank all the staff for making our stay great, Lauren in the dinning room was great fun, we will certainly be returning what a great deal for 2 nights away & the area was nice for exploring
Well done to all at The George for making our stay good
