“Stunning hotel fantastic staff”
Reviewed 21 February 2009

Been here many times for meals and held my wedding here in May 2007 and my daughter's christening in December 2008. Both occasions were amazing and the staff are always so helpful especially Marc the F&B manager. The rooms especially the suites are lovely, the food is great and they will always go the extra mile for you. Special occasions such as Easter, fathers day etc are always good there and sometimes good offers. Going again in a couple of months! Its my favourite hotel just needs a spa!

We needed a break away from the pressures of work and had looked at the chain of "hand picked hotels".
The Buxted Park is beautiful and in a lovely quiet setting. The staff are very attentive and the food excellent.
We had a lovely weekend break on one of their special all inclusive offers, I think around £250 for bed breakfast and evening meal for two people for two nights.
We enjoyed the hotel experience so much we intend to try other hand picked hotels in SE England. We have just stayed at the Chilston Park Hotel in Leham, unfortunately it didn't live up to the same expectations. Please read my next review.

Our second visit and just as impressive. Food even better than before. If you just want to drop out for a day or two and really chill, this is the place for you. Calm and beautiful.

Next time we need to escape reality we'll go again.

Still no draught beer though...

I took my girlfriend to Buxted Park for her birthday, and as a suitable backdrop to pop the big question. Having searched extensively online it seemed about the best place in the south east for the job.

Although from the outside the building is no oil painting, it’s very well looked after and arrive at dusk you will be treated to a suitably refined ambience care of the courtyard with lit statues. Inside it really is a beautifully restored building, styled in classic Georgian decor with a chic, modern twist. Sipping wine by one of the big open fires is a wonderful winter treat.

We stayed in a junior suite which was a bit smaller than I was expecting, but the 20ft ceiling and amazing views compensated for the lack of space. Beautifully decorated in a refined, warm toned grey, the suite looked the part, but on closer inspection was let down some of the fittings, especially in the bathroom- which despite roll top bath, lacked a bit of thought and precision. Exposed pipes behind the sink and a cheap, synthetic floor, twinned with a slightly odd lay out, left one thinking they'd missed a chance to really make the most of an £8M refurbishment. This may well be nit picking, but at £300 a night one feels entitled to do so. Another slight grumble, is that the place really is geared for big events and weddings and not for independent guests. The majority of rooms seemed out of commission and being used for private functions or storage rooms. Something to consider if staying here.

Afternoon tea and breakfast in bed were both superb, though at dinner our amuse bouche and starters at dinner weren't quite so clever. The mains were good however and the chocolate cigar dessert simply breath taking.

The service was sharp and the staff were exceptionally friendly (bar one really moody chap but we'll forget him). We were given a free glass of champagne for my girlfriend’s birthday, and as we had just got engaged the kitchen staff went to the trouble of writing congratulations in chocolate on my fiance’s dessert. £30 a head for 3 courses seems a fair price if you choose your starter more carefully, but expect to be stitched up on the wine, which carries a hefty mark up. £25 for a £6.99 bottle of Chilean Chardonnay and £40 for a £14 Pinot Noir.

Buxted Park is a stunning place to visit if you want a country get away, but you'll have to be prepared to put up with the crowds and pay top dollar for the privilege.

P.S She said yes by the way.

We stayed at this hotel for a wedding and it was nothing short of excellent. The hotel is oppulent, luxurious and inviting and set in stunning grounds in the Ashdown Forest.
We stayed in one of the suites which was total luxury. The food was excellent (the best beef wellington ever!) and breakfast was good too.
If I had to moan about anything it would just be to say that the water in the bathroom wasn't hot enough!
I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a luxury romantic getaway or a quiet break.
For those brides looking for a venue, if you want to wow your guests, this is definately the place to go!

A return visit here proved that this hotel is very good indeed. We took my parents there to celebrate their Golden Wedding and the hotel really made our stay special. My parents got a room upgrade and everyone on the staff made them feel nothing was too much trouble. Food is excellent - you wont leave the table feeling stuffed, but the quality and presentation is first class. Everything is freshly cooked with the finest of ingedients. This is well worth the money - and for once a return visit confirmed that this place deserves all its stars!

Got an excellent deal at Buxted Park through Late Rooms: £71.06 for 1 night's stay, breakfast and a bottle of complimentary wine.

We travelled by train - got a taxi from the station on the way, but walked back the following day (took 15 mins).

The hotel is located at the end of a long drive way, and you pass a very picturesque church on the way.

Check-in is a bit odd. Being an old country house there isn't a proper reception area, so the desk that is provided for check in looks a bit temporary.

The room was really nice. Quite small but very clean. Nice flat screen tv. There isn't a great deal to do in the evening, so after our meal we made use of the free dvd hire and watched a film. Decent toiletries available in the bathroom.

The hotel provides a small number of free wellington boots - having rained all bank hol we made use of these to explore the grounds. Not a huge walk but nice to get out and about and just relax.

The gym is located in the basement. My husband couldn't use the treadmill due to the low ceiling and it gets very hot in there but it was nice to have the facility available and we managed to get a decent work out in (much needed ahead of our meal!!).

The hotel was very, very quiet and this I think contributed to the lack of atmosphere. I think it's one of those places that comes alive for weddings and functions but it felt empty. There was a small business function on - they were having aperitifs the same time as we were in the bar, and they ate in a separate restaurant. In the restaurant there was only one other couple to begin with, though two others joined later. We were given an amuse bouche in the bar when enjoying cocktails and perusing the menu. We opted to have the degustation menu - decent food, not Ramsay standard but very nice. Lovely waiters who showed us how to make napkin designs. Agree most of the staff are french! I really don't know how they manage to stay motivated when it is so quiet. I didn't fancy the dessert and they happily accommodated my preferred choice.

The breakfast menu was good - a decent amount of choice and nice to see locally sourced products. The 'help yourself' bread/fruits area was a bit limited but then again there were so few of us!
