Our family group of 5 stayed at the Old Rectory for four days over Christmas. Miranda and her family were fantastic hosts, nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation was elegant, comfortable and spacious. The bed linen and towels were luxurious and the house was extremely well equipped. There were lots of very thoughtful gestures, bubbly in the fridge on arrival, baskets of local biscuits and sweets, lovely bath products in the bathroom. The perfect environment for a relaxed family Christmas, we loved it.
Everything was just spot on. Miranda is a very lovely and caring host. Will definitely come back again!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Old Rectory. The house and surrounding are beautiful. It is so well equipped, cozy, extremely comfortable beds, the decor is lovely and moreover; dog friendly! .... A perfect weekend. Miranda and Anthony could not be more helpful and the fizz was very welcome!
We hope to return.
Lovely welcoming hosts, close by when we had a question, but not intrusive. I visited with 3 dogs; all made to feel very welcome with dog treats and a secure area just outside the front door. Lots of great walks on the doorstep. Supermarkets are 5 mins drive away in Tavistock and a good base to explore Devon. The property was just as you see in the pictures, I read a previous review which sums it up really well - very Jane Austen.
A very friendly and welcoming home. The beds were very comfortable, there was an outdoor space and the kitchen was fully, fully equipped, a pity we were not able to to use it much during our short stay. Every detail is thought of. Mary Tavy was also lovely, with some great local footpaths, for Dartmoor though it was a bit westerly. We would have loved to stayed longer.
Breathtaking stay - like stepping back into the gloriousness of Jane Austen with every modern amenity - what could be better! You will instantly feel at home with all the little treats Miranda leaves for you and don't even get me started on the decor which is the best I've ever seen - the sleigh bed in particular is just divine! I could have stayed a week and more as the walks around that area are some of the best in the UK and it was so lovely to have plenty of outdoor space for me and my dog who also loved her stay. You won't regret spending the few more pennies for this slice of heaven I assure you - I have already recommended to family and friends. Don't think about it - book it!
We feel so lucky to have found this property . The accommodation is decorated to a very high and elegant yet comfortable standard . Our first visit was in July 2016. Miranda was more than helpful from the outset and assisted in securing our very last-minute booking for a one night stay . We were arriving later than expected so she made sure we had some provisions for the next days breakfast so we didn't have to stop to shop on our way. We visited again in October 2016. Our 8 year old dog was also made to feel very welcome at all times. Although Miranda was away at the time , she was always available to answer any e-mail queries very promptly. We were also able to have a later check out which ensured that we could enjoy our stay more and did not have to rush to leave. Our third visit most recently in June 2017 for my husband's birthday was also superb . This is the perfect place for a getaway. Treats of cream tea (scones , clotted cream, jam) await as well as prosecco & nibbles. The living room is cosy . There is a lovely kitchen with all mod cons and seating area. The bed is so comfortable and a long soak in the bath after a day out is essential!
The outside area is private and perfect for relaxing. The grounds are lush and ideal for a short stroll. The location is great with plenty of places to explore by foot . Lydford gorge is only a short drive away . The Elephants Nest Inn is a few minutes away with tasty food, nice atmosphere , beautiful garden and friendly attentive staff.
Miranda, Anthony and their family are genuinely kind, helpful and welcoming. All our stays have been brilliant. We highly recommend this property. The hosts are wonderful, the location and accommodation stunning. We hope you decide to stay at The Old Rectory and have as lovely a time as we always do. We can't wait for our next visit!
