We have dined at Browns for lunch on a couple of occasions and the food and service was excellent. This time we decided to splash out and book an evening meal. Perhaps the Great British Menu connection has gone to their heads, but it was somewhat disappointing. Three courses are £39.50 so you expect a certain level of service. We were shown to our table and then left to watch while several other diners arrived and were served bread and appetizers. Eventually someone recognised our presence and bread and appetizers belatedly arrived. The food was in the main good. However, my wife enquired about the flavourless fine beans that were served cold and with a coating of something white. The waiter promised to investigate but didn't return. At the end of the meal we requested the bill and again the waiter failed to oblige. We had to go to the bar to settle the bill. We had lunch at the Horn of Plenty near Tavistock the following day - 3 courses for £26.50 and food and service were exemplary.
