We came back yesterday from a lovely two night stay we bought as a voucher. A very secluded hotel which we would never have found without our Sat Nav. We arrived early and were given a lovely welcome by owner Debbie and her mum. We were shown around and shown to our room - room 4 - cosy with a lovely view out the front of the hotel over the fields. The only downside was it was very cramped each side of the bed. Apart from that it was very clean and we loved the home made biscuits the chef left as a welcome.
The weather was gorgeous and we spent a lot of time relaxing in the garden. We enjoyed watching Debbie's brother Russell's progress in the garden planting and weeding and creating areas. We like the secluded seating through the arch and the evening lights.
The evening meal was delicious but so filling. The steak and ale pie and chocolate brownies were delicious.
The cooked breakfast each morning was great. Well done everyone.
We visited nearby Lydford Gorge- a great shady walk especially as it was so hot. The shops and indoor market and farmers market in Tavistock were lovely. We also booked tickets to see a band at The Wharf theatre in Tavistock. Debbie booked us taxis there and back.
My partner and I would definitely return to this lovely hotel - next time we'll book room 6 with a great free standing bath to one side of the bedroom! We'd definitely recommend The Coach House to anyone.

I would never have found this welcoming B & B if not for the internet. Stayed 2nights with offer voucher. Lovely people, cosy room, excellent food, and small bar.We were even given a lift to the local pub, as all the family were going that evening and it was uphill. They all do an excellent job of welcoming you to their B&B. There is a secluded garden with "work in progress" patio.!! Keep up the good work, and amazing Chef. Thank you for a good couple of days..

My husband & I stayed here for 2 nights at the beginning of this week. From the start we felt very welcome, despite arriving rather early. We were shown to our room (6), which I booked on account of the roll-top bath! We had a voucher offer but this room was a little extra, worth it for the bath although it was a shame to have no view at all.

We ate in the first night and paid the extra to have the main menu, rather than the 'lounge menu' which was included in the voucher price. Again, the extra was worth it - we can recommend the duck; it was lovely. The breakfasts were excellent - I requested fried bread, which was not on the menu choices, and it was perfect both mornings!

We sat in the snug after the meal and played cards, feeling very at home. We slept well in a comfortable bed and in perfect silence (until those nesting sparrows woke up at 4.15!).

We would love to go back sometime and see how things have moved on for this lovely little family-run hotel. It's actually very handy for day trips out into the countryside and Cornwall and down to the coast - though you may need to get used to how to get back to Ottery and find your bed again! We missed it a couple of times!

Nice, relaxing break.

Room Tip: Room 6 is very nicely decorated but there is no view at all, just a roof top.

Everything was good at this family owned, dog friendly, eight bedroomed B&B. The welcome, friendliness and hosting skills of the owners/staff far overshadowed any minor niggles we observed during our stay.

Our downstairs twin room was clean and well equipped with plenty of coat hangers, drawer space, comfy chairs and a bedside table and lamp each. It was situated just a few paces from the front door which was perfect for when walking the (ten pounds per dog per night) dogs (on lead) up a quiet nearby lane for morning and evening business......any off-lead walks were a short drive away. Yvonne warned us that the Coach House is situated on a 60 mph limit road!

We had an amazing value two night B&B deal which included a main meal each on the first night - the steak and ale pie was excellent. The draught and bottled beverages were very good. There's a small bar and a snug with a couple of couches. The breakfast was served in the bright clean restaurant.

The Coach House is only a few miles from some lovely walks with the dogs, such as Kit Hill (free parking) and the wooded grounds of Cotehele House (National Trust site with free parking).

The hosts are receptive to suggestions and, for example, when we asked about a 'doggie bin' day one, the next day there was a new black bin, suitably signed, at the edge of the car park for this purpose.

Being 'townies' we were quite taken aback at the laid-back attitude to security - the front door was unlocked whenever we used it (there was no manned reception). When we returned mid afternoon on the second day, we were shocked to find our room ajar with the 'skeleton-keys' in the lock (Room service was interrupted?). Fortunately, nothing but our dirty towels were missing. I couldn't find anyone to hand the keys to, so left them on the diary on the bar. We were quite angry about this incident but decided not to mention it as nothing could have changed what had just happened. We just got on with the final evening of our stay.

All things considered, we enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

Did a voucher, and did not have high expectations, but we had a lovely time. Family run hotel, that appears to welcome you into the family and embrace you, attentive, kind and with a good sense of humor. Dog friendly room with bed and bowls, but we had brought ours, but really caring of Alice our pooch- she even had a sausage breakfast. This is a new endeavor so has some quirks, lots to do but so little time I imagine they say,but as a family they are going for it and we wish them success. Food very generous too much for us, we should have ploughed a field afterwards, but this again is about their warmth, my Dad used to say they will kill you with their kindness. One point more starters for those of us who cannot eat big meals. Overall loved it,honest and kind people-try it you will have been in posher but not friendly and disabled

Room Tip: Rooms being done up I am told but our room one of three ground floor good for my disabled partner an...

Set down a country lane a few miles from Tavistock, the Coach House is an excellent base for visiting Dartmoor, Plymouth etc.

Can only echo previous comments regarding the warm welcome and hospitality shown by Debbie and Yvonne and the high standards set in the kitchen with their full "Devonshire" breakfast being a great start to the day.

So glad we found this gem

We were fortunate to stay here as a birthday present. My sister bought the Amazon deal for four of us and it's probably the best value you could get for break away. When we arrived we were given a very warm welcome by Debbie who never lost her smile all through our stay. During the time we were there we also got to meet Debbie's Mum, husband and brother who were also lovely and friendly and made us feel like guests in their home.
The food was enough to make us want to return again. As stated in the deal, the meal that is included is from the lounge menu but there is the option to "upgrade" and pay the extra. For the chicken special or the braised lamb it was worth every penny. If you have any room left after the freshly cooked breakfast and the perfectly cooked evening meal, try the chef's own chocolate brownie with ice cream. That one left me speechless!
Apart from the family, there were other staff that played a major part in helping us enjoy our stay. The young lady who helped serving breakfasts had a smile for everyone. The chef is young and very talented and also took the time to mix with guests.
As stated in previous reviews, and explained to us when we arrived, the hotel and gardens are "a work in progress". No, the decor is not perfect and yes, the lights in the dining room may not be to everyone's taste (previous review), but what has been achieved in the last year whilst keeping the business running and the guests happy should be applauded as anyone who has worked in a service industry would appreciate.

We will definitely be returning to this peaceful, relaxing and welcoming place and I would not hesitate to recommend it to others.
