“Great Night at the Pump House”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

We've stayed at mount Tavy twice now, residing in the pump house both times its such a quirky little place, the pumphouse is a lot of fun and everything we were looking for, even brought our dog the 2nd time!! The location is fantastic, just a small walk from town and the pump house itself if only about 20 yards from the wanderfully picturesque lake, breakfast has been spot on both times and the owners are always friendly and accommodating. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone like ourselves looking for a fun time away and we will definitely be going again!

Room Tip: for a young couple looking for a quirky night away the pump house would definitely be our recommenda...

We were booked in for one night's bed and breakfast and when we arrived we were shown the Pump House - and were given the impression we were lucky to have this accommodation. The sleeping area was terrible - it was not high enough to stand and once in bed there was only a few inches clearance on one side of the bed between ones head and the rafters of the roof. Very dangerous. The toilet/shower room, although modern, was minute.
The breakfast was very nice and the owners welcoming - but we were very disappointed with our accommodation - and did not sleep a wink.
We thought it was poor value for money - especially as a few days later we stayed at a very nice hotel with a beautiful room and excellent breakfast and an equally picturesque location - for exactly the same amount of money.

Room Tip: If offered the Pump House, say no.

We were married at Mount Tavy Cottage at the end of May with 45 of our family and friends with us. All of our guests made comment on what a perfect venue it was and they were also bowled over by the amazing afternoon tea served by Jo and her lovely girls. Both Jo and Graham were the perfect hosts and nothing seemed too much trouble for them- they gave us free reign to do what ever we wanted to. We used all of their accommodation which was unique and had everything and more that you could expect from a far more expensive hotel. The breakfast was delicious and there was so much choice. We would like to thank both Gra and Jo for a truly wonderful day that we will never forget.

we got married at this wonderful venue in June 2012 and it was truly amazing, a beautiful little spot with wonderful grounds for photos and just right for our small intimate wedding. Gra and Jo were more than happy to help and helped suggest people for flowers and music and we had one of their pigs for the hog roast. We had guests staying in the accommodation and enjoyed home cooked, home-reared full english breakfast each morning. I've just read someone else's negative review and thought I had to put my experience down in writing for other travellers. If you're looking for a peaceful venue with friendly, down-to-earth people who will go head over heels to help you get exactly what you want your special day to be then Mount Tavy is for you. Our special day couldn't have been more perfect, got an amazing photo of ducks waddling in front of me in my wedding dress.

We recently had our beautiful wedding day at Mount Tavy Cottages...the sun was shining and the whole day was just perfect. All our friends and family commented on the beautiful venue and our hosts, Jo and Graham, were helpful and accommodating all the way through. They allowed us to plan the day just as we wanted it and we could not have asked for more. Those guests who stayed were very happy with their accommodation...and the delicious cooked breakfasts!
Thank you Jo and Graham for hosting our perfect sunny wedding day.

We had a family room on two floors. At arrival, the very friendly owners brought tea and scones and the room was already warm and cosy.

The gardens are beautiful and there are plenty of dogs and cats for the kids to play with.

Breakfast was a full cooked English breakfast.

We wanted a night away in a peaceful and refreshing location and it doesn't get much better than Mount Tavy Cottage. We stayed in the Woodshed and the views were amazing, including the horse who came to see us in the morning. The accommodation itself was spotless and so well organised for families. Our 6 year old daughter stayed upstairs on the top floor with her own little bathroom (the highlight for her!), and so we could relax downstairs on the comfy sofa whilst knowing that if she needed us, as they sometimes do when they stay somewhere different, we would hear her easily. The log fire was a highlight for us and we got exactly the relaxing evening we were hoping for. The breakfast in the morning was perfect and plentiful, and the honey made by the bees that my daughter had seen on an earlier exploration of the grounds was nice, as were the sausages. Graham and Joanna were so welcoming and helpful, this really contributed to the overall experience and relaxation.
We visited Tavistock Market the next day which was full of local produce and arts and crafts too,
I cannot recommend Mount Tavy Cottage highly enough, we are thinking of going back!

Room Tip: The Woodshed is great for families
