“The Elephant's Nest - Great Experience”
Reviewed 10 September 2012

We stayed upstairs in room 3, which was superb as the bed was comfortable, the bed linen clean, white and crisp. The towels and the robes were fluffy, white and beautifully clean. The shower room was well appointed and spacious.
The food was tasty, well prepared and served by friendly and attentive staff. I would certainly recommend the micro brewed Nellies bitter which was brilliant. The breakfasts are superb, the english breakfast will set you up for the rest of the day and was well cooked and swiftly served.
My only regret is that our schedule meant that we were only able to stay for one night, but we will return.

An awesome experience from start to finish.
We arrived early, in the middle of a busy lunchtime, were welcomed by friendly staff and shown immediately to the room.
The room and bathroom were spotless; bedlinen, facilities and toiletries as promised on the website and included nice touches like fluffy white towelling robes and fresh milk in the fridge. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in.
The bar staff were knowledgeable and helpful, the food and wine were delicious.
The breakfast was worthy of a Rick Stein Hero award, from the freshly made fruit salad that included mangoes and strawberries to the wide choice of cooked goodies such as seared scallops and bacon, fluffy omelette and the full English.
The location is idyllic, views to Brent Tor and the moors; the only sounds we heard were a nearby farmer training his sheepdog competing with the morning birdsong.

We intend to go back soon.

Room Tip: Room 1 has its own private patio with a view of Brent Tor

Lovely old pub, full of character and well worth a visit either just to eat or to stay. It has an idyllic garden overlooking beautiful countryside. If you book the garden room, you will have your own private outside space with table, chairs and lounger. Clean contemporary bathrooms with good rain showers; very comfortable beds with white cotton linen and feather duvets. If you're staying, dinner is a must. Excellent food, and good wine and beer. Breakfast also very good (fresh fruit salad with mangoes, strawberries and blueberries; a wide menu full of choice, including scallops and bacon). Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with your own garden space

Food good. Room looked nice but is the dirtiest I have ever stayed in. Sink , toilet and shower had not been cleaned. Dust and fluff could be lifted in handfuls from the floor and there were dead flies on window ledge. The bed linen was fresh and clean however.

one of our favourite pub/inns when in the Dartmoor area. We always fit in a visit. The staff are always very welcoming, dogs are welcomed, and the food is plentiful and excellent. Highly recommended and worth finding - it is nestling along a winding Devon lane from Mary Tavey.
