Description: The Galley is Salcombe's longest established restaurant, having first opened in 1962, and has the most wonderful view from its dining room.Where possible we use traceable fresh local produce and have an extensive menu including Salcombe Lobster and Crab, and a great selection of fish which is all from day-boats landing in Plymouth and Brixham. We also serve Westcountry steaks and chicken, and 'Gressingham' duck, and we also serve a selection of vegetarian dishes. We look forward to welcoming you.

We are regulars at the Galley and have been for many years. It never fails to deliver: good service, good food in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Would highly recommend - is excellent value for money. Booking advised

“Amazing”
Reviewed 10 May 2013 via mobile

From the seating area overlooking the estuary to the service, the quality of the food and the cost it was amazing. If you want an upmarket experience at a competitive price go to this restaurant. Be sure to book though because they do get busy at peak times. Wonderful!

“Lovely fresh food but no atmosphere”
Reviewed 25 April 2013

We decided to eat at The Galley after studying all the tripadvisor reviews of restaurants in Salcome. It was a night of torrential rain at the beginning of April 2013, during the Easter holidays, and we were one of only 4 occupied tables that night.

As its name would suggest, this restaurant is a long skinny room that ends in a picture window over-looking the water - I'm sure that this is lovely when the weather outside isn't dark and wet - but worth noting (for better weather days) that there is no outside dining space.

With so few diners it would be difficult for any restaurant to create an atmosphere but we did feel that the lighting was much too bright and the diners were seated too closely together - so close that you felt like you were sitting on their tables with them and could join in their conversations! Hence we spent our evening talking in hushed whispers, not wishing to share our conversation with everyone else. I'm sure that on a busy night, with much more general background noise, the close proximity of other diners isn't a problem.

We ate from the set menu which we thought was very good value for money, as was the bottle of house white wine. The food was all very fresh and tasty, all I would say is that it lacked contemporary presentation.

In a town like Salcome, which such strong competition, I really think that The Galley need to 'up their game' if they are to fully potentialise their great location.
We went to The Winking Prawn the following day for lunch and the atmosphere there couldn't have been more different and the whole feel much more 2013!

Although good value and I don't think we would choose to eat at The Galley again.
