Description: The Galley is Salcombe's longest established restaurant, having first opened in 1962, and has the most wonderful view from its dining room.Where possible we use traceable fresh local produce and have an extensive menu including Salcombe Lobster and Crab, and a great selection of fish which is all from day-boats landing in Plymouth and Brixham. We also serve Westcountry steaks and chicken, and 'Gressingham' duck, and we also serve a selection of vegetarian dishes. We look forward to welcoming you.

“What a Shame”
Reviewed 2 October 2009

Salcombe is a brilliant setting but a pity there are not restaurants to match - at least one! We thought the Galley ticked all the boxes, the ambiance was good, the location was perfect and the service very good but the standard of food was disappointing. It was almost as if they were nearly there but did not have that touch of finesse to make the leap. All the dishes were ok, but that's all, with the exception of the lobster which I should have sent back because it was overcooked, rubbery and no flavor. I am so annoyed I didn't!

“Service is poor- food is ok”
Reviewed 1 July 2009

We recently dined at the Galley and the service was awful. We waited 20 minutes for a jug of tap water (this is all we drinking but I bet it would have come quicker if we would have ordered champayne!). Then they said that my monkfish had been dropped on the floor and they were quickly doing me another one. 20 minutes later and the "just cooked if not alittle undercooked" monkfish arrived and it was ok.
I wouldn't go back. The Dick and Wills restaurant at the other side of Fore St is much better and better value for money with great views.

“Still the best in Salcombe bar none”
Reviewed 1 June 2009

This is still the best Restaurant in Salcombe with the warmest of welcomes from Sam and Sue and their very pleasant staff. The quality of the food is always excellent and the ambience is great. We love the little booths for 2 and if you are with a larger party the views over the harbour from the larger tables and wonderful. Go quickly past the pricey pubs with their mediocre food and head for the Galley - you won't be disappointed!

The Sains dining club (all 2 of us).

“Best in town”
Reviewed 25 September 2008

I have throughout the years been to most of the restaurants in Salcombe and this one is by far my favourite! With a varied menu and all food being local and freshly prepared it tastes just amazing! Prices are very similar wherever you go in Salcombe and it's doesn't cost much more going to a restaurant than to one of the many pubs here, but the quality of the food is certainly much better. Hidden away just off Fore Street next to the bakery and with spectacular views as literally on the waters edge I couldn't ask for anything else! Will be back soon!
