We stayed in the twin room last weekend and it was great. The room, as usual, had everything that we would need and the staff were welcoming and helpful. They went out of their way to ensure we were looked after especially with our little girl. On the morning we left our little girl was so upset at leaving her 'holiday house' and a toy car she had become very attached to, 1 of the staff went and bought her 2 toy cars that she could take home. So thoughtful and just finished the holiday off. We will be back many more times. Can't recommend enough.

Dear KarenC

What a super review and it's great to read that we went over and above to ensure your little girl was able to leave tear free from your weekend away.

Our team are absolutely amazing and we're so very proud of them - thank you for acknowledging this!

I hope we'll see you again very soon,

Best wishes

We stayed in one of the two 'Hobbit House' rooms here for one night to extend our weeks holiday in Salcombe.
Check in was really easy and the lovely member of staff who showed us to our room offered to carry our bag, enquired if we needed a table reservation in the pub that evening and told us everything we needed to know about the room - perfect.
The rooms have been refurbished since we last stayed in summer 2015 and are fab! We had the twin room, however, the team had kindly pushed the beds together and also made the bed with a double duvet (as we were staying for our Wedding Anniversary).
The facilities in the room are great - soft linen, fluffy big towels, fair trade hot chocolate, fair trade tea, Nescafé coffee, milk, sugar, bottles of spring water, biscuits, alarm clock, flat screen TV, good powerful en suite shower, shower gel, as well as really good central heating, comfy arm chair and good sized drawers/wardrobe.
The view from the twin room over looks part of the extensive pub garden - don't worry if you're staying in the summer as the pub closes at 11pm, so your sleep won't be disturbed. We loved being able to hear the budgies in the room from their avery in the garden and we're sure we heard a cockerel too - although we didn't see the cock or chickens.
Check out is a very leisurely 10.30am and you just leave your keys in your room when you're ready to go. The pub always has a member of staff staying in it, so if you have an emergency you are able to contact someone overnight and the team work from 9.30am to gone 11pm, so there really is always someone around if you need anything!
As many other reviewers have mentioned, this is a 'bed' rather then a 'bed and breakfast' but we don't see that as an issue as it is very much reflected in the room price (we paid just £55 for the room on a Saturday night in November) and there are many places you can get breakfast in Salcombe (even out of season). Our favourite is Captain Morgan's which is less then 20 paces from the front of The Victoria Inn (go out of the pub, across the road and Captain Morgan's is on the right hand side over looking the estuary).
We don't hesitate in recommending a stay here, just book up early, as there are only two rooms and at such a good price they do get snapped up quickly!
We can't wait to return next year,
Kerry and Mark Johnson

Room Tip: Only two rooms. One double with a glimpse of the estuary and one twin with views over the pubs lovely garden.

Dear Kezegan

What a great review and thank you so much for taking the time to write it! A really thorough review of one of our two rooms in the Hobbit House, and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us.

The chickens are just a bit further up in the garden and yes, we now have a Cockerel who lets us know he's there every few hours, but he's a huge softie and is thoroughly scared of the hens!!!

We can't wait to see you back again,

Very best wishes

Rather nice and very busy pub on the main street of Salcombe. Usual array of st Austell beers and a fine menu to boot. Very busy when we arrived and booked in to our accommodation and was still very busy when we came to find something to eat. Didn't have to wait long though. Food was lovely, beer was fine and service was great.
Our room was in the loft at the rear of the property. Low doors! Very comfortable. They didn't do breakfast though. Maybe they do now. Don't know. Anyway, a good pub right in the heart of things.

Dear Captain Bovril

Thank you so much for your lovely review and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us. They are 2 great rooms aren't they, and I'm sorry we don't offer breakfast but with only the 2 rooms it is not really practical. There are also a couple of really great places within about 3 minutes of the Vic that offer fantastic breakfasts - so I hope you didn't find it too inconvenient. But with prices per room starting from just £50 per night we believe we offer great value for money and we hope we will see you back here again very soon,

Very best wishes

Really nice double room right in the centre of Salcombe. Helpful staff and lovely food. Really enjoyed by stay, bottled water, tissues, and nice biscuits was a lovely touch. Have to give the outside door a slam to shut properly, which could be a problem if you're not staying along with the guests in the other room. Would definitely stay here again.

This summer I walked the entire South West Coast Path to raise money for FORCE and Over and Above, two South West charities that support cancer patients and their families. Tim and Liz at the Victoria Inn very kindly agreed to be my Accommodation Partner and Gold Sponsor in Salcombe. The Victoria Inn is an attractive pub ideally situated in the main street running through the town, near all the shops and facilities. Tim and the staff were friendly and welcoming on arrival and I was shown to my room in a separate, private building next to the large beer garden at the back of the pub. I stayed in a good-sized twin room, which was nicely decorated with a modern feel. The staff provided me with a fan, which was most welcome given the heat, and helped by pointing me towards a launderette and a cafe for breakfast in the morning (the accommodation was room-only). In the evening the restaurant area was full, even though it was midweek and in term time, which was a good indicator of the quality on offer. And so it proved, as I had an excellent two-course meal accompanied by very good service. Thanks once again, Tim and Liz, for your amazing support of my charity expedition. If you search for Jim’s Journey on Facebook, you can see lots of photos of the views around Salcombe and elsewhere along the South West Coast Path.
