Description: The Victoria Inn has been run by Tim & Liz Hore since 2008. We pride ourselves on being a 'Traditional Pub, with Traditional Values'. It has this year (2014) been awarded the Taste of the West Gold Award - awarded for locality of produce used, ambiance and high standards of service. We are the only pub in the South Hams to hold this prestigious award. National finalists In Licensee of the Year, finalists in Devon Life Family Friendly Dining Establishment as well as previous Fish & Chip award finalists. We welcome children with their own menu selection of home cooked food and dogs with their own Al a Bark menu! Bookings to eat with us are advised as we get extremely busy and hate to disappoint customers.

This little gem is a Tardis. We visited for lunch with family on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The interior is surprisingly spacious, and incongruous with the compact frontage. The inside dinning area is on two levels, with access through to the tiered patio area and garden. There is a play area and a sizeable hen run. Younger diners are well catered for with a special menu, colouring equipment, lollies AND wet wipes freely available. This was indicative of lot’s of little “thoughtful” touches the management had put in place.

Apart from one unfortunate encounter with a surly barmaid who was in serious need of attitude realignment, all the other staff were friendly and helpful, even when bringing our meal to the top of the garden, which is about as far from the bar as you can get, but offered a delightful view!

The food is very reasonably priced, especially for Salcombe, and was generous in quantity, and of good quality. Between us we had a cheddar ploughman’s, two pulled-pork burgers with apple sauce and a fish and chips. The bread rolls were proper farmhouse rolls, and apple sauce, garlic mayo and butter all arrived in plentiful supply. All in all, a delightful lunch in enjoyable surroundings.

I thoroughly recommend the Victoria Inn, whether you’re eating or drinking.

Dear Whiteknight1969

Thank you for your fantastic trip advisor - you couldn't have described our beautiful pub more eloquently if you'd tried! We're delighted you enjoyed your visit to us and we would love to see you back here again on another occasion.

Because we do take all feedback very seriously, and our staff represent us when we're not around - please contact me personally to discuss your encounter with one of my staff in greater detail - this as you have described is in no way indicative of our staff generally, but customer service is vitally important to our continued success.

With very best wishes and our thanks once again for your glowing review,

Liz Hore - Licensee

Called in here for a spot of lunch last week. The Crab meat sandwich with salad and chips was nice. Cosy atmosphere that looks like it's a popular place to eat going by the number of reserved signs that were already on many of the tables set up for the evening. Situated right on the bustling street by the Harbour.

We visited Salcombe by boat the first week of July and paid two visits to the Victoria Inn.
On both occasions we were very impressed by the warm welcome, particularly from the manager who could not do enough to help.
The menu was extensive and the food was excellent and piping hot (something not always achieved in all restaurants). Service was efficient and speedy and the whole experience could not be faulted. Very worthy of the recent "Taste of the West" Gold award for 2014!
