This little gem is a Tardis. We visited for lunch with family on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The interior is surprisingly spacious, and incongruous with the compact frontage. The inside dinning area is on two levels, with access through to the tiered patio area and garden. There is a play area and a sizeable hen run. Younger diners are well catered for with a special menu, colouring equipment, lollies AND wet wipes freely available. This was indicative of lot’s of little “thoughtful” touches the management had put in place.
Apart from one unfortunate encounter with a surly barmaid who was in serious need of attitude realignment, all the other staff were friendly and helpful, even when bringing our meal to the top of the garden, which is about as far from the bar as you can get, but offered a delightful view!
The food is very reasonably priced, especially for Salcombe, and was generous in quantity, and of good quality. Between us we had a cheddar ploughman’s, two pulled-pork burgers with apple sauce and a fish and chips. The bread rolls were proper farmhouse rolls, and apple sauce, garlic mayo and butter all arrived in plentiful supply. All in all, a delightful lunch in enjoyable surroundings.
I thoroughly recommend the Victoria Inn, whether you’re eating or drinking.
