Description: The Victoria Inn has been run by Tim & Liz Hore since 2008. We pride ourselves on being a 'Traditional Pub, with Traditional Values'. It has this year (2014) been awarded the Taste of the West Gold Award - awarded for locality of produce used, ambiance and high standards of service. We are the only pub in the South Hams to hold this prestigious award. National finalists In Licensee of the Year, finalists in Devon Life Family Friendly Dining Establishment as well as previous Fish & Chip award finalists. We welcome children with their own menu selection of home cooked food and dogs with their own Al a Bark menu! Bookings to eat with us are advised as we get extremely busy and hate to disappoint customers.

We visited here on the Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend and although it was very busy the food was with us quickly and was delicious. We sat outside in the spacious beer garden which also has a children's play area. The pub is very welcoming of children and dogs which I think is great. I would recommend a visit and would definitely return.

We- my wife and I, our son and his wife and 5 year old - ate here on the last night of a very happy week in Salcombe. Our son and his wife had booked there the night before and were so impressed that they immediately booked an upstairs table for us all .They booked this particular table so that their son could go outside safely to the play area which is off that floor. The table was occupied when we arrived because someone had covered up the reservation sign - not a great start but the staff handled it well and quickly found us a table but downstairs. Our grandson spent most of the time going upstairs to the play area which was perfectly safe because it is fully enclosed. Being downstairs meant we could experience more of the relaxed and happy atmosphere of the place alongside the bar area.
All of us were very impressed with the quality of the food, including a special of whole plaice on the bone at £15 which was really fresh and superb.
The staff helped to make this a very happy experience on which to finish our holiday.

Dear Geordieboy60

Thank you do mush for taking the time to write a detailed and very complimentary review.

We are pleased that despite the initial hiccup we recovered the situation well for you. We invest greatly in our training and it's always a pleasure to see it pays off. The play area is a valuable asset for visitors with family, being the only pub in Salcombe with such an area. It gets VERY well used!

I do hope it won't be too long before another trip to beautiful Salcombe beckons and we shall look forward to welcoming you back,

Warmest wishes to you

Liz, Tim and all the Victoria Inn team

We visited the Victoria Inn on Saturday 9th August and despite it being extremely busy ( even Liz the landlady was serving meals!) it being the first day of the town Regatta week, the service was second to none and the food the same. It was a return visit to check out the new refurbishment and we weren't disappointed! A fantastic job and attention to detail faultless. Even the canine customers were well looked after with their own menu and doggie blankets to make them feel at home. The staff were working non-stop to make sure the customers had an enjoyable evening and nothing was too much trouble. Liz was ever present, checking that things were running smoothly and that no-one had to wait too long. The night we were there The Old Gaffers, a sea shanty group, were performing in the garden which all added to the already fantastic atmosphere! We thoroughly recommend a visit but make sure you book ahead so as not to be disappointed and we can't wait to visit again next year! Carry on the good work Liz, Tim and your team.

Dear JudithP

Thank you so much for your amazingly good review and also the pictures with it!

Salcombe regatta week was certainly a hugely busy time for us and yes, I was indeed delivering food to guests - not something I tend to do too much of due to my inate clumsiness and inability to get the right table often!! Our team are so much better at it than me!

It's always a pleasure to know that guests had a great time when they visit us and I know this was not your first visit. We shall look forward to welcoming you and your Husband again soon,

Warmest wishes to you

Turned up without a reservation on a bank holiday weekend. Staff were friendly and fitted us in for an excellent meal. Great atmosphere, good for families but not over-run with children so fine for adults too. We've overlooked this place before but will be returning. Surprisingly large garden at the back.

What a lovely eatery this is, friendly professional staff in well managed customer focussed restaurant. Considering the great position of this restaurant this could so easily be a ten-a-penny mass produced characterless 'pub serving grub'. The opposite is actually true, the food is fantastic, is well presented, there is plenty of it and it's great value too.
Great credit is due to the management and their welcoming philosophy ( kids and dogs are positively encouraged, without detriment to the ambience). I am only in Salcombe for a week but I will be eating here more than the once. Highly recommended.
