What can I say, a lovely intimate restaurant with superb food and service to match. We were in Salcombe for a week and ate there 3 times! Turbot was delicious as was the monk fish. The quid started has to be some of the best cooked squid I've ever eaten, no rubber bands for sure.

If it's busy, then be patient as everything is cooked to order.

This is definitely a quality restaurant with the most superb food at reasonable prices, all cooked by the enthusiastic and energetic owner - Christine. All the staff are friendly, efficient and lively - nothing is too much trouble. We are extremely lucky to have such a gem in Salcombe. We ate there this week, together with my son and daughter-in-law, and we had a cross section of dishes - all cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is relaxed, the table was ours for the evening - what more can you want We often get asked by visitors to Salcombe 'where can you recommend' - Boatswains is top of the list.

I have been coming to Salcombe, Devon for over 50 years. Times have changed. Prawn cocktails have long disappeared, even if they were Salcombe prawns, famous in the UK. Christine at Boatwains Brasserie is creating wonderful dishes at a reasonable price - the local Mussels in a Thai green sauce is an exciting variant to other local "recipes." The whole Salcombe Sea Bass with a lemon and rosemary sauce is wonderful, so fresh. Her wine list, which in this part of the UK can very often be a copy of the next door neighbour, has some different ideas, I am having the New Zealand Mansion House Sauvignon Blanc, reasonably priced and excellent. In these difficult times, it is very satisfying to see such passion in a special little restaurant. Keep on doing great things Christine.

We are regulars at this restaurant and they never fail to excel! Friendly staff, excellent staff, brilliant food (you will not leave hungry) and a nice atmosphere at a reasonable price. What more could one ask for?

Chef/owner offering imaginatively prepared sound ingredients in hidden alley away from the hullabaloo of buzzy Salcombe
