We've visited Salcombe several times but hadn't spotted Boatswains before. It's tucked away down a little side street but well worth searching out.
As you might guess it majors on fish though there are other options on the menu. I had salt and pepper monkfish and my husband had the 'trio of fish' which is served with a creamy caper sauce. Both meals were excellent, good sized portions of beautifully fresh fish.
Service was friendly and efficient.
The restaurant is quite small so best to book if you are there in the summer season.

Very good local food and helpful friendly sevice. We had a table upstairs which was a little cramped and very close to the working communications in the kitchen- (dowstairs looked more attractive). Whilst the restaurant doesnt have the best of aspects and out looks in salcome the fresh local fish special for the day was really good and this was definately the best food of the three restaurants we tried in Salcome.

Tucked away in a tiny alleyway off Fore Street Salcombe we found this little restaurant, specialising in all things fishy. We were told the local fish from Salcombe is sea bass, the rest of the menu sourced from Plymouth fish market. Try the brown shrimps on parsley toast, followed by sea bass, you won't be disappointed!

Really delicious food, very friendly helpful waitress. We visited on a Sunday night so it was quiet and therefore lacked atmosphere but would definitely visit again

The quality of Salcombe restaurants has varied over the years however Boatswains has consistently been of the highest quality. The service is always excellent. The ambience is cosy and intimate. A wide menu but I struggle to move away from my usual crab pasta which is absolutely delicious. The best restaurant in Salcombe.
