Staying in Salcombe for a week and decided to eat in town.
Having looked at other menus in town that were primarily fish based, we chose the "The Fort" because of the wider choice of dishes served that suited all of our varying palettes.
Our four dinners, a handsome plate of Devon ham, egg, chips and peas, a huge 10oz gammon steak, egg and chips, a tasty cheesy mash topped fish pie and veg and a succulent fillet of sea bream on a bed of asparagus with crushed new potatoes in garlic, were all well presented and great value for money. All of our party agreed it was the best meal we had had so far.
Friendly staff, friendly atmosphere, well worth a visit. We will definitely be going back.

Having been to Salcombe numerous times, I managed to get down early than normal this year. I knew from speaking to friends that The Fortescue Inn is under new ownership ( has been for the last 9 months) I thought I'd pop in.
I met Dave the new owner and found him to be extremely friendly and very approachable, so much so that we sampled some Bourbon that he had behind the bar. He mentioned that he hadn't really changed much other than food is available throughout the day ( including breakfast whilst watching New Zealand v England rugby on a Saturday morning). Emma, one of the bar staff, was also very helpful and even took time out to have a chat.Locals still frequent the bar area, which says a lot about the reputation of the Inn.Food is of a good quality and reasonably priced
I certainly recommend a visit if you're staying in Salcombe or the surrounding area and please say hello to Dave!!
Cheers Jason & Friends

We ate twice here in our weeks holiday. The first time was in the bar area which I think has not been redecorated since the floods in Salcombe. It felt cold and uncomfortable. The next Time we reserved a table in the dining room which is a lot better. The food was a lot better than 2 years ago.

Went for dinner here with 8 month old, nanny, grandad and husband. Outside was like a locals place, and a few smokers, but the menu looked good.... Glad we went in. Restaurant was modern and well presented. Food was lovely, dessert was amazing. I would say best place to eat in Salcombe.

Very friendly staff, extremely welcoming to visitors. Great visit topped off by a fish finger sandwich to (almost) die for: fresh cod fillet, beer battered in granary bread with a home made tartare sauce with amazing chips and a decent salad - sounds good, it's way better than that!!
