My wife and me came here last year and were very impressed. This year we brought a friend on a night the owner wasn't around and we were rather disappointed. We both had ribs to start that were very dry, my wife had a reasonably goof Thai Red Curry but there was far too much liquid for her liking. I had a wry disappointing steak that was quite greasy as were the mushroom, tomato and chips. Our friend was the most pleased with her chicken in a sauce dish. Not sure if the standard has slipped, or whether we chose badly or whether the lady boss's absence was a factor. Still though the staff were very friendly and welcoming to our pooch.

Booked for dinner for 5 of us and all seemed to be going great. Our first and main courses were excellent with good service. But something happened as we went to order deserts, the service just seemed to disappear at 9 o'clock and everything seemed to come to a halt. We had a problem with a couple of the deserts which was immediately resolved by the staff once we got their attention but his seemed to take a fair time to initially find a server and then to get the deserts replaced. This was a bit of a disappointment for us and particularly as the rest of the evening had been great. We've put it down as a hiccup and assume service will be fine on future occasions.

We booked No55 in January for the bank holiday weekend (having tried booking rather keenly in November last year). The restaurant was full-ish on Monday evening but like most restaurants we visited in Salcombe people appear to eat earlier. We arrived at 8.
Table was ready and staff were very helpful. Drinks taken which was great - not least as after ordering it appeared only two of us were drinking. Six starters - all excellent - squid was lovely. Six main courses - the two specials - one of lamb and the other was catch of the day which were great. I apologise for not remembering especially as I also had the catch of the day from the menu! I do remember the crispy leeks as they were very nice - perhaps not the prime thing to remember though. The chicken breast was moist and very nice.
Coffee and desert for some - plus some more wine!
Thank you

Bank holiday Sunday late pop in.
Called in and asked if a table for 3 was available. Hopeful but the late spot was available. We snapped it up, amazing fat mussels and squid starters. All 3 went for the irresistible lamb main. Amazing, as a chef I would actually say flawless. Lemon cheesecake and sticky toffee puddings to follow, would they drop the ball? Not a chance. Exquisite, espresso and amaretto to finish. Winner. Support your local great restaurant..

This is a nice restaurant just up the hill from the harbour.
The meal was enjoyable & the wine selection was reasonable.
There were no views but at night it doesn't matter& felt friendly.
