Description: Big buckets of prawns, juicy steaks, fish dishes and breakfast buffets, ice creams, teas, coffees and even our own brand of locally brewed beer, the Winking Prawn’s style of shabby chic beach restaurant and cafe has been enjoying life at North Sands in Salcombe for more than 20 years. Sandy toes and salty paws are welcome come rain or shine for breakfast, lunch and dinner (but don’t forget to book in the evenings and keep an eye out for seasonal opening times). In the summer we also have a barbecue in the garden to enjoy as the sun goes down, and our dressing up box is legendary for bringing out your inner pirate, mermaid or fairy princess no matter how old you are. Opening times are seasonal, please take a look at our website for more information.

This was our walking turn around destination. Two hot coffees and a crab wrap each. Super and tasty. Sat outside, a bit breezy but taking the rays of warm sunshine. At this time of year a steady stream of customers and I must admit to being a bit jealous of other guests tucking into bottles of wine. I was driving unfortunately.

Lovely location just set back from the beach, with inside and outside seating. Staff very friendly and helpful. Crab sandwiches fine but could have had more crab to make them really special. Good choice of drinks - 'andsome cider very good. inside has steps to seating area so difficult for disabled. toilets worth a visit, but didn't see a disabled toilet.

Baguette was lovely, cider was great, didn't think it was expensive though I see some reviewers have said it was. Whole experience was very pink. Guys behind the counter could have smiled would be my only minor negative observation, but they were very busy and being very efficient.

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience with us Rob!

We're glad you enjoyed it, although we will work on those smiles - usually the team are a very happy bunch so perhaps you caught them deep in concentration.

So pleased you enjoyed your baguette and the cider - hopefully you liked the pink as well!

Hope to see you again soon!

We drove past this place and decided to Pop in on the way back as it looked nice. It was very quiet when we arrived with only one other table in. We both ordered baguettes with fries. Both of us really enjoyed our food and there was loads of crab on the sandwich. The chips were hot and tasted nice too. Food was brought out within minutes of us ordering.
I’ve not given 5 stars because I think it was quite expensive, 33quid for basic lunch for 2. Also, there were no baby changing facilities and we had to change our small baby on the wooden bit next to the sink in the toilet.

Thank you for taking the time to review your experience with us - I'm thrilled to hear you enjoyed your crab sandwich and fries - it is a favourite here and of course we take a lot of pride in our seafood.

I assume there were a couple of other items in your meal to reach £33 as our crab sandwiches are £8.35 which is largely in line with those in other local cafes and restaurants, although some do charge more.

Regarding baby changing - the second loo is the largest space that we have available in what is a reasonably historic building and as such we have provided space there dedicated to baby changing.

Once again, I am so pleased you had a lovely time with us and I do hope to see you and your family again in the not too distant future,

warm wishes
