“Great service and great food!”
Reviewed 12 February 2006

Being new to the area of Ross-on-Wye, myself and my two sisters brought our mother to Glewstone Court for her 60th. Being welcomed very nicely, my mother was given both a card and a posey for her birthday by the hotel owner. The owner himself was amazing - he's really old money but worth it as he was very charming and treated us like guests in his own house rather than customers. We were given a big room to ourselves for our meal and to say the food was good is an understatement. I had duck with an avocado salad to start which was actually the size of a main course in many restaurants. For my main I had partridge which was really strange to see on a menu so I had to go for it - it was amazing! The food was available in abundunce and was all really lovely. Deserts are great too. The views from the hotel are lovely and we were really made to feel at home. It was reasonably expensive, but worth every penny in my opinion!

We have just had a wonderful 3 nights at Glewstone Court to celebrate my husband's birthday. The setting of the hotel and the ambience was wonderful. We were treated as guests rather than just customers and my husband even received a birthday card from the staff. The bedrooms were very comfortable with individual style and the food just wonderful. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

An utterly gorgeous hotel, about as far removed from the corporate chain concept as you can possibly imagine. A lovely old mansion, REAL service from the owners to whom you are a GUEST rather than a profit centre, and great food and accommodation.

I have stayed there twice now and can thoroughly recommend the excellent food and delightful views. Nothing beats having a pre-dinner drink in a lovely lounge with the occasional cat and dog wandering by (!) and a gorgeous view over the fields to Ross on Wye, followed by a marvellous meal.

The proprietor of this perfect country retreat is a great chap called Bill. He, and his two labradors (Buster and Harvey I think!) and his wife are the PREFCET hosts at this fabulous old manor house.

Should you arrive on Friday evening, have a drink in the lounge. Its like the front room of some rich relative's house, usually complete with a roaring fire. The slightly sagging but amazingly comfy sofas will not want to release you for dinner, but make the effort as dinner is also fabulous. Try the local beef....its simply sensational!

Everything about this place is perfect if you like the real english countryside and the hospitality of a man so laid back that he could be permenantly horizontal! then you will love this place.

There are walks by the Wye River and Ross-On-Wye is close by for the local pub experiences. There is plenty to do for the outdoor types or if you just want a quiet country weekend reading newspapers and easting good food, visit here.
