“Sunday lunch - bit of a shame really.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2014

My wife and I ate here yesterday lunchtime. We were greeted by a miserable woman on the bar who swore through gritted teeth at the customer in front of us because he was unable to understand the card machine. A nice start!

Two Sunday roast dinners were ordered. One beef, one beef and turkey. The one with beef and turkey appeared with only beef on it. It was taken away and the turkey added. The other appeared to have a full compliment of meat but one of the slices turned out to be inedible due to the amount of fat in it. It was replaced with minimal fuss.

Whilst both meals came with a rather large Yorkshire pudding, the pudding somewhat highlighted the small amount of vegetables that are served. It is only when you realise that you've just paid the best paid of £9.50 upwards that is all seems a bit of a rip off.

The view from the bar is superb. Possibly one of the best in Ross but that doesn't make up for swearing staff and an overpriced meal.

Sorry Royal Hotel but you can do better than that, surely.

A nice hotel, well located, with a nice bar and a good breakfast. It is in a nice spot for a walk by the river. I would choose it again if passing this way. The town itself Is attractive but a bit dead, with no interesting shops that I could see...a couple of very pricey art/antique shops would maybe attract other tastes, the only secondhand bookshop is about to close. But river walk is lovely.

Had a great weekend here staying on a Saturday night.
Hotel is furnished to a great high standard and the staff are exceptionally helpful.
Stayed in a superior room and it was amazingly comfy and lush, although a mini bar wouldn't go a miss !!
Had a meal in the restaurant and although it's the same menu as the bar was very nice and plentiful although a foreign body was found in my starter it was corrected and replaced virtually straight away. Breakfast we had in the room and although they don't advertise it they were very happy to be bring it up.
Defiantly going to rebook for another relaxing weekend as soon as we can and our wedding!! :-)

Room Tip: Superior rooms

Just returned from a great few days at The Royal. Superb location near to the town centre with fabulous views.
The staff were all very friendly, helpful and attentive.
The rooms we stayed in were beautifully furnished and had all the facilities we needed for our stay -tea/ coffee, hair dryer, iron & ironing board etc. Free car parking & free wifi (The Cloud)
Excellent breakfast choices - great service & cooked on order as well as being able to help yourself to cereal, juices, fruit, pastries, toast etc.
Large bar & restaurant - good choices on food menu including 2 main meals for £10.99. The weather was lovely so made the most of sitting & enjoying the sunshine & views on the riverside terrace bar.
A great base for visiting local towns & cities such as Hereford & Gloucester.

Went to the Royal hotel for lunch, all of the staff were friendly and attentive. The bar women offered to set us up a table in the restaurant, although we stayed in the bar (lovely views). The food was delicious, we all enjoyed both the lunch menu and the deserts! The staff were very helpful and couldn't have done more to make it an enjoyable experience for all of the group. Thank you!

We were to be at Ross-on-Wye for a 50 year wedding anniversary so decided to make it a long weekend. There are a number of good hotels in the area, but we wanted one in the town and chose The Royal Hotel for 3 nights.
We had The Marchioness Room, onsuite with one of the easiest showers that we have used in a hotel, plus a really, really comfortable bed. Its a corner bedroom that has three windows, two that looked over the town and one with a lovely view over the valley.
The breakfasts were excellent with a good choice ranging from continental to the full breakfast but for lunch or in the evening there is a bar which goes out to an extremely impressive and very popular terrace, although there is a dinning room. The food is very good and that is shown by the number of local people that use it and there is a nice touch with the sharing platters.
I am looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Only that mine was excellent

just stayed one night on fri 1st aug. very lovely hotel, beautifully furnished and in a very pretty location. had booked the family room for 3 adults and one child and on arrival there was a slight problem, not the hotels fault but couldnt have been more helpful in resolving it. upgraded us at no extra charge to a superior room but if we did'nt like it we could have 2 seperate rooms. as it was the room was fab, very plush and so much room, even the sofa bed was big and comfy. bathroom was immaculate. we had a very tasty meal in one of the areas off the bar, service was good and prices reasonable. although the hotel was very busy we felt very relaxed and there was a lovely atmosphere. the following morning having slept late and arriving very late to have breakfast/brunch which again was so good we didnt realise we should have checked out 1 1/2 hrs earlier. again this was not a problem even though we had delayed the cleaning staff getting into our room. we will most definitely be going back to stay and hopefully for longer. our stay although short was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. would highly recommend the royal hotel.
