“spent the weekend here camping”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

We were part of a group of nearly 30 people who spent the weekend camping here, we had breakfast and evening meals here. The service was excellent and the staff very helpful and friendly. With so many of us we pre ordered our evening meal and everyone had a hot delicious meal at the same time. Nothing was too much for the staff.

“Pub Lunch on the River”
Reviewed 11 June 2014

It was a beautiful warm and sunny day, my Australian friend, Michael, and I decided to go out for a pub lunch. We could not have chosen a better pub; everybody was friendly and chatty as we arrived in the pub garden which is right on the river. We sat at a table overlooking the River Wye with swans floating up and down and trees and fields on the other side.
We had a very good pub lunch for a reasonable price.
I would definitely recommend this pub, especially if the weather is nice so you can sit outside. In fact, it would be very pleasant and relaxing after a morning shopping in Ross on Wye.

“Good quality food with a lovely setting”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

Visited here on a Friday evening and found the riverside setting very pleasant. Good choice of seating and an impressive choice of food. The fish options were generally high calibre and the fish pie from the specials menu was very good indeed. Service was courteous and attentive, and the all round experience was a happy one which I look forward to repeating.

“Warm food and warm welcome”
Reviewed 28 May 2014 via mobile

A cold, wet summer evening....uplifted and inspired by a spontaneous visit to the White Lion. Chose the Fish stir fry off the 'Specials' board. It was quite simply delicious...unpretentious and flavourful. Enjoyed every morsel. Followed by the indulgent Banoffee Pie. Service was good...friendly without being pushy.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

Went recently with a group of friends, two of whom ordered a mushroom stroganoff. What was delivered to them bore no resemblance to any mushroom stroganoff that I've ever seen - watery yellow liquid, no sign of any onions, garlic or herbs and a pile of plain button mushrooms swimming around in it. Truly awful. The rice that accompanied it had clearly been sitting in, then reheated in, a round container and was a solid lump rather than individual grains.
My lamb burger was fine, if a little uninspiring. The best bit of the meal was the side salads!
To be fair, upon complaining about the dishes, my friends were not asked to pay for them. And the staff were friendly, and the location of the pub is great. Just a real shame that the food let it down so badly. We're local and it'd be good to support local businesses but when you go out for an evening meal, you want to be able to eat and enjoy what you order.
