We spent a happy hour or so over an afternoon tea served in an airy, comfortable lounge. There was a delightful selection of sandwiches, a sweet, scones and cakes plus Twinings tea served by a friendly waiter in an unhurried fashion. Maybe a tablecloth would have added to the occasion and perhaps a choice of sandwiches rather than just egg and ham: my husband can't eat egg. The sandwiches had been made in advance (understandably) but sadly not clingfilmed, so had dried out a little. However, overall, the afternoon tea was quite delicious and we already look forward to our next visit .

My husband and I stayed here twelve months ago and found it to be a very convenient and welcome break in our journey back to north Cheshire from the south coast. It was a natural choice to once again break our recent journey here. in a quiet and tranquil setting to re-charge our 'batteries' - our room was quiet and overlooked the well kept grounds. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom well appointed. Chilled wine on arrival was a bonus! Once again we were warmly greeted by all staff and enjoyed well presented meals in the dining room and the waiting staff treated us like royalty - a lovely touch! We will definitely visit again.

Room Tip: overlooking the grounds

Upon arriving we ordered a light bar lunch which was just right and served by an attentive smiling waiter. The hotel itself is well appointed and the staff friendly and helpful. The only downside is that there is no lift to upstairs rooms. Although help is given with luggage, for residents with mobility or breathing problems the stairs do need careful negotiation. The problem we experienced with the heating in our room was speedily dealt with and caused no further problems. The bed was large and comfortable with plenty of good quality towels and toiletries in bathroom; likewise tea/coffee/biscuits were of good quality. The hotel is quiet and runs in an unobtrusive but efficient way. Our stay was a Winter Warmer Offer and it was good to have a £25 allowance per person towards the a la carte menu. Breakfasts were really good with plenty of choice.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 38 with front and side views of the gardens

This is a great hotel mixing traditional with contemporary. We have eaten and stayed at this hotel over many years and always pleased with service and food. A recent weekend was spent on a special deal and it was very busy. Although the restaurant was full, the service was excellent and the food very high quality. We were in a superior room overlooking the grounds and everything was perfect. Highly recommended.

Lovely hotel on the edge of Ross on Wye. Staff very helpful and food excellent. We stayed on a Travelzoo offer which included a 3 course meal and it was nice to be able to choose from the a la carte menu instead of a set menu as you were given an allowance of £25 each.

I have stayed many times at this hotel and was booked in with my wife for an overnight stay combined with a dinner which included 6 friends living locally. Unfortunately, I was booked in the a 'superior' room - regrettably that was not a good description, although, presumably, it was superior to some of the other rooms. In addition, we found the spare towels (only 1 in the bathroom - which we shared) in the wardrobe upon departure - and no flannel. I know this hotel is better than that - pleasant staff and decent food - so come on The Chase - pull your socks up and get back to the old standards !

Room Tip: If you are used to 4 and 5 star hotels - don't stay in the Standard or Superior rooms

We had a lovely one night stay on special offer. Staff very helpful and friendly 5 out of 5. Meal 4.5 out of 5. Cleanliness 4.5 out of 5. View from room 3 out of 5 overlooking kitchen and the noise from the kitchen fan was off from 10pm to 6.10 am more than enough time to get a good night's sleep. Overall would return again.
