“Where we go for a chill out!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2013

What can we say? where can we begin? Everything which can be good about a hotel is right here at The Old Court. We cannot think of one bad thing to say about it!
Probably the worst thing about it is that we are not able to go there as often as we would love to.
One has to experience it for one self to understand the meaning of character, atmosphere, charm, friendship, fabulous food (you do need to have a good appetite!) all this and perfect surroundings.

Room Tip: Four poster bed rooms are a lovely experience

Just returned from a two night mid-week break. Stayed in one of the feature rooms. We liked it very much. Very quirky as would be expected from an old hotel trying to keep a lot of its original features. The bathroom was clean although dated but cleanliness is more important to us that "state of the art". Friendlly accommodating staff who made our stay even more enjoyable. Bar meals were more than substantial, tasty and reasonably priced. Breakfast was freshly cooked and piping hot. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back in the summer months.

A slightly mixed review, so I will start with the negatives and finish with the positives.

I made a telephone booking after seeing what looked like a super self accommodating area in a barn conversion on the hotels website, but be warned, the bright and spacious lounge was not what we found.
The lounge was actually very dark, so dark that my husband struggled to read a newspaper even with all the lights on and it wasn't spacious the photograph was very misleading.
The kitchen was tatty and the cooker hood was filthy, we were very surprized by what we found.
The bed was a small double with a very soft mattress, which I found very uncomfortable.

Now for the positives.
The price of £210 for 3 nights was an acceptable price to pay, the £155 per night would not have been an acceptable price to pay.
The area had lovely walks and as we had our dog with us we did enjoy our walks. We were not charged extra for our dog which was a bonus, as you are often charged extra for a dog.
Breakfast I will say was adequate for me, my husband felt that they were a little on the small side.
The staff were lovely very smiley and helpful which is always a positive thing when you are away.
Parking was right outside where we stayed, so easy access and no problems with the parking.

This hotel occupies a wonderful idyllic setting, lovely grounds. The whole place is full of charm and character, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the food is superb. The only downside was our room at the top,' Wolford' which was beamed and old but not quite so charming and the bed sloped and was very uncomfortable, but this was the only minus in what is a very lovely hotel. There are some lovely river side pubs to eat at nearby and all the food was locally produced or reared and every meal wherever we ate was excellent. We would go back.

Room Tip: It's not a noisy location anyway, but there are rooms with a balcony on the newer side of the ho...

What a fantastic place & overall brilliant experience. The owners & staff went above and beyond expectations to ensure our family & friends had a wonderful time. Our rooms were fab, food fantastic (lots of it!) & lots of little touches were greatly appreciated by us all. The staff were happy, smiley & obviously get along very well with each other. We will definitely be visiting again as soon as we can! Thanks again to all but we must extend a special thank you to Leanne.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Gwillim room. A comfortable four poster bedroom. Was located above the bar so could...

Been back again to our favourite hotel in the Forest of Dean.Have been staying there since 1969 and never had a bad stay.Lovely place to stay and very comfortable. Staff were just the same as well as the management( (Tori and Jonno).Prices were a little higher for the food but as everywhere it happens. The quality was just as good as before.Prices for staying were as last time we stayed. Going back next year for a self catering holiday but will be eating in the Hotel most of the time.Roll on June 2014

Room Tip: Anywhere is a good room but stay away from the function room if a 'DO,'is on. Noisyish.
