We checked in for a night this weekend whilst in Hereford, where we were attending a friends wedding.
Our first impressions of the hotel were made on arrival, whereby we were met by a friendly woman who i later learned was half of the couple who owns and run the castle lodge hotel. She was warm lady who showed us to our room.
The room wasnt austentcious, gaudy or over the top, it was clean and simple but boasted all the ammenities you would expect at a standard hotel. Extra bed linnen, tea and coffee making facilities and a televsion with freeview.
We then left for the evening and were told that recpetion would not remain open over night so were left a key to the front door. Upon return, the door was locked but the entrance hall was well lit so there was no confusion getting back to our room.
After a good nights sleep, in a large cozy bed, we awoke for breakfast which was served in a resonable time slot of between 8-9:30.
I must say breakfast was a highlight for me. A selection of fruits and juices, cereal and tea and coffee were available to help ourselves to and we had a choice of hot food from a menu which the other half of the owner ship team served. 2 slices of bacon, sausage, has brown, fried egg, mushrooms and toast were of exceptional quality and beautifully cooked, we were offered more toast and the owner showed geuine interest in our needs and surprsingly us as people and the event we had attended which was a nice touch.
Ultimatley, this is NOT the best hotel I have ever stayed in, nor the most decadenent or grandiose. It is however one of the most relaxed, warm and friendly places i have ever found and despite the odd (clearly poorly) motivated reviews on this site, we decicded to take a chance.
What you get from this hotel is like staying at a house of someone you know, it felt like i was staying with my parents or an uncle. The facilites were clean, the food was lovely and the service was exceptional.
No hotel will ever be perfect. And if you look, you COULD find things wrong, but i simply decided not to, because if i did, I would be doing so just to be picky, Steve and Georgina have done a great job, allowed us to stay in there home and are welcoming people, and i havent got a bad word to say about them OR the Castle Lodge Hotel.
