We checked in for a night this weekend whilst in Hereford, where we were attending a friends wedding.
Our first impressions of the hotel were made on arrival, whereby we were met by a friendly woman who i later learned was half of the couple who owns and run the castle lodge hotel. She was warm lady who showed us to our room.
The room wasnt austentcious, gaudy or over the top, it was clean and simple but boasted all the ammenities you would expect at a standard hotel. Extra bed linnen, tea and coffee making facilities and a televsion with freeview.
We then left for the evening and were told that recpetion would not remain open over night so were left a key to the front door. Upon return, the door was locked but the entrance hall was well lit so there was no confusion getting back to our room.
After a good nights sleep, in a large cozy bed, we awoke for breakfast which was served in a resonable time slot of between 8-9:30.
I must say breakfast was a highlight for me. A selection of fruits and juices, cereal and tea and coffee were available to help ourselves to and we had a choice of hot food from a menu which the other half of the owner ship team served. 2 slices of bacon, sausage, has brown, fried egg, mushrooms and toast were of exceptional quality and beautifully cooked, we were offered more toast and the owner showed geuine interest in our needs and surprsingly us as people and the event we had attended which was a nice touch.

Ultimatley, this is NOT the best hotel I have ever stayed in, nor the most decadenent or grandiose. It is however one of the most relaxed, warm and friendly places i have ever found and despite the odd (clearly poorly) motivated reviews on this site, we decicded to take a chance.

What you get from this hotel is like staying at a house of someone you know, it felt like i was staying with my parents or an uncle. The facilites were clean, the food was lovely and the service was exceptional.

No hotel will ever be perfect. And if you look, you COULD find things wrong, but i simply decided not to, because if i did, I would be doing so just to be picky, Steve and Georgina have done a great job, allowed us to stay in there home and are welcoming people, and i havent got a bad word to say about them OR the Castle Lodge Hotel.

We popped in for a mid week supper and had a great evening. The staff were really welcoming and the bar menu was varied. I ordered tuna which arrived perfectly cooked with seasonal veg and my husband ordered fish and chips, which he said was very good. Service was excellent and it was good value for money. The hotel occupies a beautiful river setting, we ate outside in the garden on a warm summer evening and recommend this venue if you are looking for a true taste of Herefordshire.

Room Tip: We didn't stay, but the hotel was full and all the guests seemed very happy

The rooms were lovely. The hotel was very clean and the owners were lovely. There were fresh strawberries for breakfast and a very extensive menu. We ate dinner and the food was good but the chocolate panacotta I had for dessert was amazing. We would return.

We stayed here recently for a week and had a lovely peaceful time. Steve and Georgina made us very welcome. We found the hotel to be clean and the bed was very comfortable, unlike some that we have stayed in recently. We also appreciated the tea/coffee making and the shortbread biscuits. There were a good variety of breakfasts available each morning all nicely cooked and presented. The evening meals we had were very good especially the turbot and john dory dishes. We shall be visiting there again one day.

This was the worst place I have ever stayed in.. Food was awful, room was dreadful, the place was a real dump.. The owners need a personality by-pass. It was a dreadful experience, don't bother !! There are so many beautiful places and this is definitely not one of them ..

As a rule,my partner and I don,t respond to bad reviews.By and large, the vast majority of our guests enjoy their stay with us and appreciate the personable service that we afford them. This is not just a business. It is a way of life!
Every now and again, however, there are people in life who have little else to do but peddle falsehoods about others, which are completely uncalled for and potentially libellous.Ordinarily,if a guest had any grounds for a grievance I would be the first to remedy the issue, and accept responsibilty, but this review is motivated by nothing more than malicious intent and does not represent any shadow of the levels of quality, service and integrity we aspire to.

As a hotel we had stayed in previously but not with the existing owners, we were looking for somewhere to celebrate my birthday convenient for the majority of the family. In the end there were 11 of us with 10 staying overnight. My initial contact to book had been easy with Georgina sorting out all the arrangements for the rooms and for us to eat in the restaurant. On arrival we were greeted by Steve who was very friendly and very quickly made us feel at home. The feeling is of a family hotel with no airs and graces but who want you to have a relaxed stay.
The evening meal was excellent and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. We had one fussy eater who was struggling with the excellent choices on the menu but this was brilliantly resolved by Steve once he had been given some clues as to what was required.
If I was being a bit picky my only concern on the night was on the choices for the wine but this was more than made up for by the quality of the food.
The rooms were very pleasant but it is an old house with some low places, so watch out if you're 6ft like me.
It was great to return here and sample the new ownership and we weren't disappointed so, if we're that way again, would have no hesitation in making a return visit.
Thanks Georgina and Steve for a great weekend.

Room Tip: the hotel is near the end of a dual carriageway but I don't think any of the rooms are particula...
