Owner description: The splendid Great Hall of Oakham Castle is one of the finest Norman Halls in England. The Hall is best known for its collection of enormous commemorative Horseshoes donated by members of the Royal Family and Peers of the Realm. It is also decorated with a range of 12th century sculptures. The grounds of the Castle are a peaceful oasis in the centre of Oakham. Following extensive refurbishments, the Castle now features improved facilities and activities for families.

Great little space, I like to walk my dog here every day so she can have a run around off the lead, as the park next door can sometimes be too crowded and I wouldn’t like her bothering other people or another not so friendly dog! The church itself a lot of the time has little craft fairs or events on inside. Also a great quiet place to have a picnic!

This was quite breathtaking as it states it's a castle but looks nothing like a castle. It looked more like a hall. I couldn't get over the collection of horseshoes it.

It was a gem to find as it was tucked away, but when you sit in the in public park behind it, you realise that it is in a short distance of other places around even though you think you have walked miles to get to the castle.

The staff were accommodating in answering any questions that we asked. The access was wheelchair users was good too.

A great Normal Hall is all that's left of the castle but what a little gem it is with it's unique collection of horseshoes so it's well worth a visit now that it is fully restored. With a poignant display of some 10000 ceramic poppies to commemorate 100years since the end of WW1 I found it quite moving.

A great Norman Hall with commemorative horseshoes. Lots of them including The Queen, and Prince Charles.

In the lawn, commemorative Poppies from WWI.

A nice way to spend an hour or more
