“food”
Reviewed 3 November 2012

We visited 28/10/12. the food and service was o.k. The only thing is that the place is small and compact, there is always a smell of deep fat frying, it gets everywhere, on your clothes, in your hair, you smell of fat when you get in the fresh air.

“Cheap honest food”
Reviewed 24 August 2012

This is the cheapest cafe in Lytham, you can smell the burnt chip fat from 50 yards away (good sign that its going to be cheap)

“Old fashioned cafe.”
Reviewed 5 May 2012

A large cafe with tables outside in summer months. Good for coffees and light snacks. Frequented often by the older generation.

“Possibly the best breakfast in the North West”
Reviewed 4 April 2012

Breakfast is an important meal. It is one of our favourite meals. For the last few years we have tried breakfasts in a variety of locations in the North West. These include garden centres, little seaside cafes, city centre delis, restaurants at tourist attractions, hotel breakfasts and carvery chain breakfasts. Having carried out this research, we feel that the Chattery Cafe or to give it its full name, the Chattery Cafe and Patisserie, in the charming town of Lytham, is the best we have discovered to date. The Cafe is located across the road from the Cheese Shop and a few days away from a greengrocers.

Since discovering this hidden gem, we have visited several times to ensure that the excellent meals we had on our first visit were typical of the meals served. We have visited with relatives and they also have been impressed by the high standard of breakfast available here. Unlike some of the neighbouring posh eateries, this is a cosy but plain cafe specialising in home made food. The decor consists of seaside postcards and over 100 plates adorn the walls according to our granddaughter Chloe, who counted them whilst waiting for her piping hot sausage and beans.

The basic breakfast consists of the main items found in breakfasts across the North West - bacon, sausage, fried egg, beans (or tomatoes) and hot buttered toast. The bacon is not too greasy; the sausages are never burnt and the skins are not too thick. The beans are always hot and have the right ratio of bean to juice. My wife is particularly pleased that poached eggs are available as an alternative to fried eggs and are consistently "just right". Many of the other places we have visited for breakfast serve toast with butter in those wasteful little packets so you have to butter your own toast whilst the rest of your meal is going cold. This is not the case at The Chattery.

In addition to the standard breakfast described above, extras are available for 60p each including hash browns, mushrooms etc. The basic price for the standard breakfast includes a pot of tea.

The breakfast is available all day - as it should be - we have lost count of the number of places we have got to where breakfast is only served until some arbitrary time. The Chattery Cafe does sell a wide range of other meals and we have noted diners on adjacent tables having roast dinners, sandwiches, salads, omelettes or other meals with chips. Maybe one day we may try something different but for now we are content with what we believe is the best breakfast in the North West!
