“Very Very Disappointing”
Reviewed 1 January 2013

I have reviewed this hotel before and said it was a great family hotel, I have also stayed here many times. We arrived very late with tired twin boys, checked in and went to our room. The room was cold and damp, however we were shattered and been driving all day so let it go.
In the morning I complained to reception and asked to see a manager, they did their best to avoid me speaking to a manager and said they would get housekeeping to look into my complaints.
After quite a few attempts I finally got to see a manager. We went to the room, which I pointed out clearly had a damp problem, that has been covered up, you can see the line around the room where the plaster has been cut back, patched and painted to botch up the rising damp issue, the bathroom has not been correctly cleaned in a long time & obviously never seen bleach, the tiles in the shower were foul with soap scum & mould, there was mould all around the floor silicon & mirror.
We received pitiful apology and an even more pitiful 20% off our bill, I did say that this didn’t go far enough but no more was being offered, I was also told that she would discuss this with housekeeping.
Clearly, the room issue is underlying and could not be dealt with by housekeeping, however the bathroom was appalling and worthy of head of housekeeping being sacked.
Sadly the hotel requires some major work in quite a few rooms and owners that care, which doesn’t seem to be the case.
In general the reception, waiting and kitchen staff are pleasant & helpful, but the management need to take a long hard look at their quality of product.

A large group of us went to the st Ives for our Christmas party on 8 Dec. Great value for money room was nice, staff are always very freindly, this is the fourth year we have been and the only small criticism is with the food at the meal, the vegetables were very hard, which was a shame because in the past everything has been spot on. We will definately be back next year so well done!!!!

this was our first stay in this hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was quite modern and the bed very comfortable. This hotel is more suited to families and if you do not mind children then for couples is it fine as well. The food was a carvery and average and the breakfast was a buffet but unfortunatey cold.

We will not be staying here again.

Booked a short trip away with our 7 month old daughter. On arrival our room was fine but our baby monitor didn't work to enable us to go down into the bar area so for a small supplement we were moved to room 18 which was fabulous! 2 huge beds, sea view terrace and plenty of space for a cot. The hotel staff were helpful and friendly, food was great (£15 for a 3-course dinner!) and our whole experience was excellent! It may not be the most modern hotel but its extremely comfortable and the staff did go out of their way to help us. Entertainment at night was hilarious (bingo with the bus trip crew!!) and bar prices were extremely reasonable! We'd definitely return, particularly as the hotel was so good at accommodating children.

As always the reception staff were very helpful and friendly. We booked a lovely sea view room that was very comfortable with a very comfy king size bed, but found it strange there wasnt one drawer in the room and also nowhere to put all your toiletries in the bathroom. The food was excellent but the waitresses were very slow to replenish bowls, cups, spoons and milk etc.The hotel is in a wonderful position if you like walking there is a great walk round Fairhaven lake and then onto the coastal path into Lytham. We have stayed here before and always enjoy it and will be going back next year.

Stayed for 2 nights during Oct half term. Booked a 'family suite' and was given a room that looked like it was last decorated in the 1970s. Furniture tatty and falling apart, brown stains on curtains, view of a brick wall, just horrid. After telling the manager we were not happy with that room he went on to show us other - much nicer rooms - then said "sorry but you can't have one of those, they're all full" !!!! I presume we had paid the same rate as the people in the 'nice rooms'. We eventually ended up in a seperate building, which we had to get to by walking round the back of the hotel and through the...erm...leisure area.....a filthy paddling pool, childrens play area which looked like a death trap, badminton court with patchy astro turf...all looked unusable and dangerous, very neglected.
The manager did try hard to please us and gave us a discount and bottle of wine, but we were very disappointed.
Despite all this we did have a good time, the bar entertainment was good, and the kids really enjoyed it. The dining room is nice and the breakfast was good.
The problem is the website, it gives an impression of a modern, contempory hotel, but the reality is more like Fawlty Towers.....and the manager blamed the website on his wife!! :)

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has been recently refurbished
