“room very dated but price and food made it better”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

the room was hot and grotty. i stayed there with my friend, my 4 year old boy and my friends 6 year old daughter. glad we didnt spend much time in the room. on the entertainment side of things, this was great. there was a kids magician on and they loved it. there was an artist on later too for the adults. best of all was the restaurant. really nicely presented and the food was really really good and definately made up for the room which was £120 for the 4 of us with dinner and breakfast all you can eat thrown in. i think i had every course twice. the breakfast was equally as good. just so you know, we were a last minute booking so they might hold the grotty ones till last, some of the hotel rooms have been renovated and are better , which i got on my 2nd visit. all in all i will stay there again if i can get a deal on the room and the food. so if you want somewhere great to eat and dont mind the room decor. stay here as its right across from the pier and the beach. the kids will love it. i forgot to mention the free use of the swimming pool which was also a godsend.

Room Tip: book early and ask for a refurbished room

Went here for a big family celebration, grandads 70th...about 30 of us in the group ranging from the youngest my daughter who was 1 and the eldest my auntie of 76 years...and about 8 teenegers included in the group! Every single one of the group had a brilliant weekend... entertainment on an evening for little ones, then the older ones as the evening progresses, my grandad dancing to mr brightside a personal high light. The swimming pool was good on the rainy day. On the beach front so location was good!... the bed rooms were tired and could do with a bit of tlc, but for the price I was expecting worse... similarly with the food which was included in the price, it wasnt 5 star, but it was edible and filled a whole, with a nice varitey to choose from. If you are wanting jamie oliver style then this is not the place for you. But if a cheap all round very enjoyable family break with plenty t keep all ages happy is what your after then give it a go!!

The st ives is very good value for a family break. We went at weekend and the grandchildren 2 and 3 years loved the running around and entertainment. Very busy friday and saturday with lots of children to run around with. I would recommend the rooms have been refurbished breakfast good and plenty of choice for evening meal. Staff friendly and helpful.

Absolutely brill place to take the children. The entertainment is fantastic for children, means Mum and Dad get a night off to relax and enjoy themselves. Staff really friendly and helpful. The room was tastefully decorated and exceptionally clean.

A great weekend made even better by staying at the St Ives Hotel.
Definetely be visiting again......

We stayed at The St Ives for four nights during half term and had a really lovely time. Friendly staff, clean, comfortable room with adjoining bedroom for the children, plenty to eat with good choices for everyone, lovely pool (changing room could do with a makeover though) brilliant entertainment for the children every night. Very enjoyable family break

I visited the hotel with my parents, my two children and my nephew during October half-term. Initially I was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews. On arrival, my first impression was that the decor was a little tired but the staff were friendly and the pool looked fab.

We were a bit disappointed to find that our rooms were not too near each other but they were on the same floor. The rooms were clean enough and perfectly adequate, again in need of a bit of an update but nothing drastic! We could have also done with some drawers!

The first night we booked to eat at 5 but had to wait for things to be completely ready. There was plenty to choose from but it varied in quality. Again nothing majorly wrong. The entertainment was great for the kids however and they were happy, meaning we were.

On the second night, it was halloween...what a difference! The menu was thoughtfully planned and the food was lovely. The staff all dressed up and it felt like a huge effort had been made. There were lots of things to do. We went into the craft room. The young girl running it was a little inexperienced and didn't interact much with the children (but I am a teacher so probably over-critical). Still, the children enjoyed it. The entertainment was brilliant for the children.

We chose the times we used the pool carefully as it was sometimes very busy but a lovely pool all the same...the kids would have stayed all day!

I would definitely visit again if I could get and offer as we did pay full price which was I felt was on the expensive side - 3 adults and 3 children cost over £700 for two nights. The staff were all lovely and couldn't do enough...they clearly enjoyed their jobs.

Room Tip: Don't get a room above the ball room...very noisy!
