“Fantastic - couldn't fault it at all!!!!!”
Reviewed 28 January 2011

My husband and I took our grandchildren (4 and 2 year old boys) to St Ives Hotel for a few days and had an amazing time. The staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough for us. The food was beautiful and there was a great selection - for both adults and children. The play room was a real hit with my grandsons - getting them out of there was the problem!! The hotel has a gorgeous swimming pool and towels are provided for this by the hotel. Our bedroom was beautiful and a great size, fitting a double bed and 2 single beds in their with ease.

Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone. We will definitely be returning!!!

I am writing an honest review so please read this if your thinking about booking.

I have stayed at the St Ives hotel we holidayed there when I was a little girl and over the last 6 years have visited on a regular basis. On the weekend 21st-23rd jan we stayed for what will have been out last visit at the hotel.. We visited the hotel as 4 adults and 3 children to celebrate 2 birthdays and had booked 3 rooms to accomodate us all.

The hotel does have some good points the pool area is lovely, the rooms are clean and tidy and are of different sizes to accomodate different family sizes. The food is all of a really good quality and there is plenty of choice for anyone.

On this last stay we noticed a decline in standards and service by hotel
On both friday and Saturday night the planned entertainment failed to show as the hotel was pretty quiet it left not only us but other guests asking if any had been booked at all. What entertainment was provided as a substitute on the friday was ok but the same guy Adrian had to do his act 2 nights in a row what really spoilt it tho was the number of children been allowed to run freely round the hotel.when bingo was been played they where jumping around on the dance floor making it hard to hear and not enjoyable..
We went and sat in the lounge area to escape this only to find kids running through it.
I went to reception to complain and was told.
The hotel cant stop them its the parents that let them do it...this is true howerver the hotel have a responsibility to ensure ALL guest have a nice stay and if people are spoiling the stay of others they need to act..
We have stayed before as I said when children have been asked to stop running round or been asked nicely to sit down so that everyone can have fun.
After talking to reception they asked us to fill in comment card and that they would be passed on to managment and someone would contact us..we left on Sunday and its now Thurs and we have heard nothing...
Yes its a family hotel and all geared for families but if you bring your children up to have manners and behave...look at other hotels in the area and avoid this one as its turning from a lovely family hotel to Chav central

We have stayed at this hotel many times. No problems. Always enjoy, love location. Just across the road to the beach and pier and just short walk to shops. Love the hotel and the area. Staff were excellent. Very pleaseant stay as always.

Staff very pleasant and ready to please, good choice of food for breakfast and evening dinner which was presented and cooked nicely. Bedroom very clean although the bed was a little too hard for our liking. I do agree that perhaps some redecorating needs to be done but overall good value for money.

reception staff were very efficient when checking us in and dealing with any problems, no complaints there.
room was average, the hotel is starting to look very run down and could do with an update, new decor very much needed! however, it was clean and big enough for the family, if a little far from the ballroom.
kids loved the pool and the arcade, the hotel feels safe enough that the kids could do their own thing while we sat down and had a coffee, something everyone was happy about, kids had their independance and we got some peace! the surrounding area was great for the kids aswell, though it was a little cold for the beach with it being November, we still had a nice walk, hotel is just opposite the beach and 2 mins away from the main shops, so great location!
Food was lovely, lots of choice and everything was very tasty, particularly loved the full english in the morning! restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful, always cheery, as were the bar staff. entertainment for the kids was good, saturday night there was a brilliant bloke on who kept them running round the ballroom. only downside was a gentleman who got introduced as the hotel owner, who had clearly had to much to drink geting up on the stage and talking, then later joiining in with the kids games. very unproffesional in my opinion, had to feel sorry for the bar staff, they looked mortified!
all in all, a good break, the kids had a blast and we'll be returning again.

On arriving at the hotel the staff at reception were very friendly. When I opened the door to the bedroom i was very disappointed. The first impression was a musty smell which was quite strong. The rooms were not especially clean either. There were curly hairs in the bath, the extractor fat was packed with dust so much so that when it kicked in the dust went everywhere. The ceiling was mouldy and the rest of the rooms were not fantastic either. The bed clothes were old and worn, the decor was dated and dirty all over with tea bag stains by the bin and black hand marks all over. The carpet was old and stained and im pretty sure there was mould growing where the radiator has leeked. My son’s bed was ok for him but if an adult slept on it, it was creeky and uncomfortable.

During my visit to the restaurant I found it short staffed. Both mornings we were not offered hot drinks and had to track someone down to ask them which was very frustrating. The breakfast food was nice tasting but the fried eggs kept running out and there were a group of us wating for a while. The staff were friendly but clearly rushed. The two evening meals had were mostly nice although on the Saturday night the beef was a bit like old leather and not edible.

I have stayed at this hotel many times and this was definatley my worst experience yet! Would I stay again? Probably not. The only thing I can really say which is positive is that the reception and bar staff were really nice and the girl that organised the activities in the swimming pool was too

We arrived after an exhausting day with family and friends. The hotel was staffed by really welcoming people and the room we had was great. Our 4 year old really enjoyed sleeping in a proper bed in our family room.
We chose to eat in our room - ordering a couple of sandwiches from the bar. They were really tasty, with crisps and salad too. Breakfast was plentiful, with lots of choices.
The pool and sauna were clean and warm and welcoming.
There seemed to be some activities for children (it was half term) if that's your kind of thing,
