Description: Despite dating back at least 300 years, many of the original features of The Kings Head can still be seen today. When you visit The Kings Head you will see the long-lasting beams made from Napoleonic Ships that only add to the character of this old English pub.The pretty courtyard that we see today was previously used for fish-drying, whilst the buildings adjacent to the yard were an abattoir and fishermans house.Despite these drastic changes over time, the inside of the pub has remained somewhat the same and the great open fire that cannot be missed. It is these characteristics that, when you visit, make it easy to imagine the pub back in the 18th Century as a regular haunt for the smugglers and sailors that would frequent this famous sailing town.

“Scrummy”

Came in today on a whim: open fires, cosy corners, generous and tasty lunch for a tenner, and the best sticky toffee pudding and custard we've had out! The service was friendly and warm - waitress was so caring and attentive: perfect. Thanks for a wonderful couple of hours Kings Head x

“Glorious”

A lovely quaint pub. Situated at the bottom of the hill, this pub is a great place for something to eat and an occasional beverage. Reasonably priced, considering its location. A wonderful atmosphere, I would recommend this pub to anyone looking for a typical 'pub' feel and tasty pub grub.

“Average but expensive food, slow service and difficult bar area”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2013

I live in the centre of lymington and eat out in the town about 3 times a week. Everytime my friends and I go to the Kings Head, we are dissappointed - and always for the same reasons which they get wrong every time.
1) The food and drink is expensive for what you get (a pint of beer is over £4)
2) The service is slow - every time they have bought the food and asked if we want sauces, they take at least 15 minutes to bring the sauces or cutlery - so we all sit there as our food gets cold watching the waitress serve other people before bringing us the sauces - its a little thing but means that our food is always cold by the time we eat it. This has happened at least 5 times in the last 6 months.
3) They have a small bar, but always have a lot of stools around it even on busy weekend evenings. They get a lot of "hoorah henry" types in - the sort of people who are down from London because they have a boat and want you to know it so wear Henry Lloyd and Deck shoes all the time - just to give us locals something to laugh at... And these people are always crowding around sitting at the bar, and if you try to get past to actually buy a drink they spread out and scowl. You can see the bar staff trying to serve, and the customers trying to reach them.. but it is always impossible.
It is a real shame that this is how this pub is - because the quality of the food is ok and the pub itself is nice - if they rectified these three things they would have a better chance of not losing too much business to the new Wetherspoons...

“Best place in Lymington by a long way.”

This pub is by far the nicest one in town. Service is just great, food delicious and it's a lovely relaxing place to sit and have a few drinks.

“I only had the soup but it was delicious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 February 2013

Although the place is very crowded during the lunchtimes/afternoons at the weekend, the smell and look of the food is fantastic so will definitely be going back sometime. I wasn't very hungry so only had the soup but it was perfectly hot and very tasty. My friend had the roast and couldn't finish it but said it was great too.
