Solent Reach Mews

We stayed in 3 Solent Mews. The house is situated in a nice location. Having stayed at the nearby campsite we felt we would enjoy the cottage. All the rooms are a nice size. The style is late 90s and there seems to be enough of everything kitchen wise, except for mugs of which we only had 4. kids were able to play safely outside and enjoyed using the jacuzzi bath which did take some time to fill up. Wifi though a bit intermittent was welcome as was the washing machine and bbq.

Solent Reach Mews has lots of potential but doesn't quite make it. We stayed in Number 6 which is rated as a 4 star standard but perhaps this should be reviewed, as it wasn't up to expectations (sadly).

There are positives - the location is excellent, just a short distance from Lymington and walkable distance from the beautiful coastal path/nature reserve. Solent Reach Mews itself is a nice quiet group of properties. Two of the three bedrooms in Number 6 are large light and very pleasant.

However much of the the inside of the holiday let needs improvement. It wasn't completely clean - there was dust on surfaces/mirrors, crumbs in the kitchen area and cobwebs on some of the beams. I found the back of an earring on the floor of our bedroom when we arrived, so it makes me doubt how well it had been hoovered. The trays of the two upstairs showers didn't drain properly, filling up very quickly. We reported this to the owners who offered to send someone to check but we said we'd prefer not to have someone in the property whilst we were staying & perhaps it could be addressed before the next guests. The bed linen, although clean, was old and covered in black bobbles.

The house sleeps 6, however the sofa area only seats 4 so it wasn't very comfortable if everyone wanted to sit together of an evening (we had to use dining chairs as well). There would be room for an additional armchair or two which could solve this problem. A coffee table would also be useful (we used the footstool). One of the keys we were given was bent so we had to ask for a replacement, which wasn't a problem really. The clock in the main living area didn't work, this should be quite noticeable to the people cleaning/checking during changeover days and pretty easy to fix.

The spiral staircase was an attractive feature, and the bedroom furniture was nice which gave the bedrooms a fresh feel, but downstairs a bit of updating would make all the difference. The exposed brickwork gave a super rustic feel but the faux beams made the downstairs area feel very dated, and the downstairs furniture made the place feel a little tired. This is a matter of personal preference of course, but for a 4 star property it is a bit of a let down along with the cleaning/maintenance issues.

A few improvements would make this a fantastic base for a holiday.

Although location is ideal dirty crockery , broken tv & an uncomfortable bed gave us reason to complain in person when we checked out & via e-mail . I'm still waiting for the owner's reply. I am not impressed !

Just returned from a trip to number 3 solent reach mews. The cottage was spacious and very clean. We had a wonderful time even with the hurricane hitting on Monday. The cottage facilities all worked well and was surprised to find TV in each bedroom. Our four year old loved the big bath and the walk in shower I wanted to take home. The nice touch of tea and sugar was great as i had not brought enough. Try it the cottages are lovely.

Just come back from a 3 night stay in number 4. We booked the cottage as our 16 yr old now refuses to share hotel rooms with us and he's sick of sleeping on sofa beds. The cottage was better than described, very comfortable, spacious, clean and easy to find. A nice touch from the owner was a supply of teabags and sugar. Odd little things need tending to but nothing that is not due to normal wear and tear. Solent Reach certainly justifies it's 4 star English Tourist Board rating and we would recommend a stay here especially as it so close to all attractions that the New Forest has to offer.

Stayed at number 5 with 2 friends. Excellent accommodation. Brilliant to each have our own bedroom & bathroom. Beds very comfortable, which is always a bonus! Very spacious & in wonderful rural location. Staff very helpful & friendly. Beautiful walks on the doorstep & lovely Lymington only a few miles away.

Solent Reach Mews has the potential to be very very nice and generally is quite nice. It's in an excellent location being very close by to the sea and the town of Lymington isn't very far away. Generally, the whole place is very nice and should be 4* rating, but there's evidence of it ageing such as rust and battered walls and door frames. There's aren't a major issue but the missing shelves from the fridge causes problems. Additionally, there's faulty locks on the doors and the taps are very, very stiff. If all these little issues are resolved then it's a very nice place to stay.
