“Beautiful, traditional English hotel”
Reviewed 6 August 2012

This is a beautiful hotel, hidden away from it all. Very peaceful and quiet, but still with easy access to Lymington and Lyndhurst.
The staff on reception were very accommodating – booking us a taxi for the evening, and even opening breakfast early as we had an early departure.
The heated outdoor pool is a lovely temperature, and the indoor pool air temperature is also lovely and warm.
The grounds are stunning, with a lake, treehouse, garden seating – all very quaint English style. There are also lovely tables, chairs and sunloungers on the main lawn were you can have cream teas or drinks.
There is croquet, golf, table tennis and pool.
The breakfast is everything you could want – cereals, fruit, toast, full English breakfast, croissants, tea, coffee etc.
Overall a wonderful stay and would be happy to go back again. A shame we didn't stay more than one night.

Despite the current weather - which was torrential rain - we set off for Lymington. Arrived at the Passford House Hotel early afternoon. Went in to view things and delighted to find our room was ready. A lovely room - overlooking the gardens, had a light lunch and walked the gardens ( in the rain). Due to the weather decided to dine in the restaurant. A good decision, the meal was really superb, the service was excellent and very attentive. The bar lounge was very cozy/comfortable. Retired to our room - bed nice and comfortable. Great breakfast in the morning, spent the day out and about. So enjoyed our previous evening meal we again ate in the restaurant and again lovely meal and service to match. Another great breakfast before departing. A really enjoyable couple of days, great food, great and attentive service, very friendly and warm.

Room Tip: Ask for one in the main building - overlooking the gardens

My wife and I were in the Lymington area and booked a one night stay at this hotel. We arrived later in the evening and were given the keys to a room which had an overpowering, rancid smell of either damp or fustiness. After speaking to reception we were given the keys to the only other vacant room which didn't smell and as it was 11pm we decided to accept. However, we soon realised that the standards of cleanliness of the room were extremely poor and we were very dissatisfied. In answer to our complaint, the manager has offered a discounted stay which would incur costs of a 400 mile round journey or passing this offer to family or friends which given our experience would be a present of the exact opposite of an gift we would wish to make. I would expect far higher standards of accommodation from very basic hotels never mind ones charging £140 per night; a very unsatisfactory experience and a total waste of money to boot which spoilt our weekend away!

Room Tip: Choose an alternative hotel!

Charming hotel on the edge of the New Forest 5 mins by car to Lymington marina and ferry to IOW. Excellent service friendly but professional, decoration a little dated but good to see a hotel true to it roots and not a stereotypical minimalist chain. Inside and outside pool lovely gardens plenty of space for all as various lounges plus a bar and restaurant. Can be noisy if wedding in progress. Food well cooked and presented, breakfast service excellent, attention to detail alert staff all very relaxing and stress free just what is required in this tranquil part of the world. Would definitely stay here again. Good parking facilities and regular ferry to Yarmouth IOW.

Room Tip: Large single room 111 overlooks lovely lawn. Room 136 twin up severa stairs not so good.

My wife and I first stayed at The Passford House hotel more than 30 years ago with our two young children. Earlier this month we returned (as pensioners!) and stayed overnight on way to the Isle of Wight. I am pleased to say the hotel still retains its friendly atmosphere. The bedroom was fine and the dining excellent. The "new" swimming pool was a great bonus. Very nice staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Delighted to recommend.

I booked this hotel for my parents, and they loved the gardens, food and feeling the hotel gave them. However, even though expected in these type of old building, there hasn't been any proper shower. They felt that being in 2012, it is not unexpected to have access to a regular shower with some kind of water repressor, it seemed that only the more expensive rooms, 200 pounds and up had this. They would recommend the hotel highly but the hotel seriously needs to update the showers, furthermore keep the hotel as it is)

The hotel's remote location created a tranquil setting for the well-kept gardens.
Despite the stilted atmosphere throughout the premises, the staff did their best to be both friendly and helpful.
The attention given to the detail in the retro décor was exquisite and the nostalgic design of the hotel’s interior took me back to my childhood in the seventies.
But Beware - Hidden Charges : Tripadvisor says pets are welcome. However I was shocked to be billed an additional £60 for my two night stay.
And dogs are even forbidden in the hotel bar!
Carefully check the prices of any extra amenities you use to avoid unexpected, exorbitant charges being added to your invoice.
