“Good service, great breakfast and comfortable room”
Reviewed 9 November 2012

The staff at Passford House were without exception friendly and gracious. It is a small hotel, run on tight margins, and in need of some TLC, but rescued from mediocrity by its employees, the quality of its breakfast, a fantastic garden and a wonderful indoor heated swimming pool. Our room was above the kitchen, which initially raised some alarm bells, but - as others have observed - the hotel is not one to attract late night festivities, so the typical kitchen noises abated between 10 and 10.30. Our 2 boys were not disturbed and it had no impact on their sleep. The facilities were all in good working order, and although not modern, were generally of good quality. The bed was a little soft for my preference, but not uncomfortable, and the sofa beds on which the kids slept were perfect for their purpose. As mentioned, the breakfast was excellent: fresh croissants and the option of a cooked breakfast or cereals was generous and tasty. Dinner was somewhat hit and miss: I opted for a rather ambitious venison Wellington which didn't quite meet my lofty expectations, and my wife had a chicken dish which was a touch bland. However, my scallops were very good (highly spiced, which I liked...) and the service was attentive. Overall, for a 3 star hotel, it was good value, comfortable and friendly. Suited our needs well.

9 couples of a "certain age" spent an excellent weekend at The Passford House. A very friendly country hotel, full of character and excellent value. From the minute we arrived the service was top class, friendly and attentive. Accommodation was good, public areas very comfortable and our private dining room excellent. The menu choices, quality and presentation of food were very good. The wine list was varied if a little pricey. The grounds are extensive, we look forward to seeing them in the Spring or Summer. Recommended.

A super stay in a really welcoming hotel. Superior room was fantastic and food was terrific. The only criticism would be that the menu didn't change. Perhaps a chef's special each day would be a good idea. Amenities, garden and sports facilities were great and the staff were so friendly and helpful.. Can certainly recommend this hotel for a long weekend or short break.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are certainly well worth the extra - ours was huge!

My family and freinds spent the weekend of October 5th/6th and 7th 2012 to celebrate my 70th Birthday, from the moment we booked in our stay could not have been better with the help of the staff, room, service and great food, this hotel is a little "Jem" located in a lovely location. a special mention to Zara who made sure the various events we had laid on went with out a hitch.
Our thanks to all for giving us such a great time.

Room Tip: All rooms are good as this Hotel is located in a very quite area.

I booked for one night, 28-09-2012 as a surprise for my husband's birthday. We were delighted from the moment we approached this beautiful hotel. Assistance with luggage was offered which is a nice touch. We had a superior double room (146) looking out over the front of the hotel, it was clean and spacious and well furnished with a very comfortable bed. There were two comfortable chairs and a small table in front of the window, nice to sit and have breakfast if you want to take advantage of room service. Tea coffee water and biscuits were provided.

The lounge areas were clean and bright, traditionally furnished with plenty of nice comfortable sofas and chairs. Newspapers were available. We thought the restaurant was charming, just the right level of attentiveness from the staff - there was a nice choice of beautifully presented food, the portion sizes were just right. The buffet breakfast was very good indeed, fruit, yoghurts in addition to a full English breakfast. (I particularly liked the silver coffee & tea pots, they dont drip!)

The staff are a huge asset to this traditional hotel, they are not only helpful and friendly but unobtrusive and clearly well trained in customer service. We wouldnt hesitate to return for another stay.

Having booked this hotel from a special 3 night deal we decided we would pay an extra £30 per night as an upgrade. We were shown to our room and immediately we noticed a fusty smell coming from the bathroom. The porter who carried our cases couldn't smell it. We asked if the room was a standard room as the size and decor didn't look superior, we were surprised when told it was a superior room. The room was no bigger than a standard room at a budget hotel chain.. The bathroom was carpeted with carpet also on the side of the bath. When we questioned the staff about the room we were told it was a traditional hotel and not a boutique hotel. All I can say is the furniture and decor was tired looking in bedroom and public areas. It is worth noting that other reviews have highlighted this same issue along with the very annoying constant drip noise from the plumbing of the room above. This somewhat suggests a lack of attention to upkeep. The staff were very friendly and the food, whilst a slightly limited choice if staying for a long period, was however excellent. Dogs are allowed at the hotel, but we noticed when some guests were taking afternoon tea in the lounge their dogs were jumping on the furniture and no one took any notice.
At breakfast the manager went and spoke to the table of guests next to us to apologise for "his idiotic staff". I wonder what comments he makes about the guests?
This could be a wonderful hotel but could do with some TLC to really deliver an experience of true worth.

we recently stayed here for a 70th birthday celebration. all I can say is its fantastic. we arrived on the weekend of the 8th September and checked in to our lovely room 147 and had a drink with friends of the party on the lawn. The weather was fab. we took a walk around the beautiful gardens with the company of 2 dogs Ruby and Martha.
our room was stunning. it even had a dressing room. clean comfy bed and a nice view at the front of the hotel.
People on here are complaining about the state of the hotel but I could not see any fault. There are many rooms to relax in with a drink or if you prefer a coffee in the courtyard or the library then there is that option too. The inddor and outdooor pools are good all though we didnt use them. We had a look.
Our meal was superb, it was hot and the drinks were a fair price for a hotel.
Breakfast was buffet style but plenty of choice from hot to cereal, yoghurts and fruit.
we would not hesitate to stay here again it was very special and the party rocked.

please be aware allow time for your journey to this hotel if you are travelling through Lyndhurst the traffic is very slow and queues for a good few miles.

Room Tip: room 147 is lovely you wont be disappointed
