“Fantastic place to stay”
Reviewed 1 October 2013

We stayed in The Forest area for a few days and I must say The Little Gem was absolutely perfect for us. The atmosphere is lovely, very welcoming and cheerful and the rooms are really comfortable, crisp and clean.Fantastic beds! Breakfast was excellent and there was plenty of it, we were able to select what we wanted the night before. There is ample parking directly in front of the house. What we found most useful was the fact that although the house itself is set in a quiet close there are shops and take-away resaurants within a few hundred yards. Very welcome indeed when you arrive late in the evening and really don't feel like getting into the car again, or if you want to buy stuff for a picnic before setting out in the morning. Mrs Money made us feel very much at home and was really good at giving us ideas of what might be especially interesting. Will definitely be staying here again as we didn't get round to doing everything!

Theres no question Elaine is an attentive, informative and excellent host serving an excellent breakfast but unfortunately the room we stayed in next to the larger ensuite bedroom is wholly inadequate as a double room, especially considering it's the same room rate as the other bedroom twice the size without the convenience of an ensuite. Although there is a separate bathroom located across the hallway which to be fair was for our sole use, the hand shower attached to the bath tap was a real disappointment. Our recommendation would be to request the ensuite room, order a full breakfast with Elaines delicious home-made bread and jam. The secondary room is ideal for one person or kids and as recommended by Elaine, an electric power shower over the bath would have earned a five rating. We would have no hesitation staying in this little gem again but only in the larger ensuite room as highlighted during our stay is underpriced and presents very good value for money.

Kevin & Maggie xx

Room Tip: Request large ensuite room and pay extra because it's worth it

Thank you for your review. I loved having you both here and am pleased you found the food fab and look forward to welcoming you in the super-king en suite room. You will be delighted to know I am in the process of having a shower put over the bath.
With regard to room size, Visit Britain and The New Forest Associstion have a standard for a double room and the room you stayed in complies with that standard: FULL-SIZE double bed, etc. Actually, some people really do prefer this room; especially those who need a bath and dressing gowns are provided. Many couples have slept happily in this room and left good feedback. (See the two reviews immediately below).
The decor is not to every one's taste but I like traditional white wicker. My pricing structure is one of the lowest in the New Forest and is reviewed annually. I will take your remarks into onside ration then.
Thank you for staying here. I wish you well in your coffee shop.

My friend and I stayed at A Little Gem at the May bank holidays recently, and had a really lovely time.

I really like the homely and country house feel to it, and think it is ideal for a relaxing break. Situated in a quiet little cul de sac, offers the quiet for a restful sleep, but it is also very conveniently near local shops and restaurants and a short drive to the forest and the seafront .
Elaine is a lovely host, very welcoming, helpful and good fun to chat to. She seems to really enjoy her job running the bed and breakfast, and it shows as the place is very clean and decorated in a very homely and cosy style. She also keeps a beautiful garden, which can be seen and enjoyed as you have breakfast. Breakfast is great, Elaine gives you a list of items that you can choose from, and when you’d like to have breakfast, which is great as the food is made and served as soon as cooked, plus she makes her own bread and jam – I had the bread and it is very good.

We stayed in the double room which has its own bathroom. The room is very comfortable, with everything thought out for your need. The tea making area is great, with plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolates, there’s a tv to wind down the day to, the bed and bedding is very comfortable and there’s even a hair straightener! The bathroom is roomy, light and airy, clean and well kept. There is a bathtub and overhead shower, lots of simple essential toiletries, there are nice towels and bathrobes provided.

We both really enjoyed the stay, and would definately like to return next time we visit New Forest.

Thank you Elaine and Brona for a lovely and enjoyable stay!

The website certainly does not do this place justice! A great room and a delicious breakfast which was home cooked and made to what we wanted. The room was clean and the host was friendly and good to talk to.

Stayed overnight before going over to the Isle of Wight...Really handy for the ferry, just a few minutes away. Room was lovely as was the bathroom. Everything provided for your stay including bath robes. Room overlooked the garden in a very quiet location. Breakfast was tasty..all quality produce. Elaine made us feel welcome and the fuss from her lovely little dog made it feel like visiting a friend. Hope to stay again very soon. Thankyou Elaine

Elaine made us very welcome during our 2 nights stay. Rooms were comfortable and space was good, even the single was fine for our 6'1" son! Breakfasts were very tasty especially the homemade bread! We really enjoyed our conversations with Elaine who is a very interesting lady and this added to the sense of welcome and relaxation. Lymington is a lovely place and we will visit again, A Little Gem will certainly be our first choice for accommodation. If you want to get into the town it is quite a long walk or about 5-7 minutes by car.
