“BEST SMALL MUSEUM”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

we went to see the ''Norman Thelwell' exhibition ,we thought he was just a cartoonist ...how wrong we were he was a great landscape artist and this exhibition displays both. We then visited the adjacent displays of the museum and were blown away by the time line exhibit which to strangers to the area told the story of Lymington. This is one of the best small museums we have ever visited. Well worth a visit

“Sadly Shambolic”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

A very simple coffee menu however the volunteer lady behind the counter got her rather elderly knickers in a complete twist trying to scan in a barcode. The few customers waiting all moved off without buying after what seemed an eternity. Shame as a lovely building.

“Went to Kill Time but loved the changes”

I had not been to the museum for many years and whilst waiting popped in. It is a well thought out history of the area, very interesting for adults and children alike.

“Gem of art gallery and museum”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

Small museum and art gallery situated conveniently by both the short term and long term car parks, a ten minute walk up the High Street from the train station, or across the High Street from the bus depot! The Old School is well laid out, with the interactive and very child friendly museum running alongside the art gallery. The gallery has excellent exhibitions throughout the year, with different themes and highly respected art work. The shop is well stocked and serves as the local tourist information centre, with all sorts of useful literature available. It is manned by dedicated and well informed volunteers, all keen to share their local knowledge with visitors. And the Old School Gallery which holds selling exhibitions also offers a small refreshment outlet.

“Gem of a local museum”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

When visiting Lymington, it really is worth taking an hour or two to visit St. Barbe's. It is quite small but has an excellent selection of art and exhibits and a good shop stocked with local goods. Good for souvenirs or hostess gifts. The museum is very child friendly and is an excellent place to go with the family.
