“Ideal place to stay in the centre Lymington”

Stayed there Friday 1st & 2nd November for b &b. & dinner. Excellent bedroom in garden side of hotel , very quiet rather than the street side rooms which are fine except on a Friday night when you get woken early for the weekly market . Excellent well trained helpful staff , nothing too much trouble . First class breakfast. Excellent dinner, although starters are too large & could do with smaller portions & perhaps reduce price accordingly. Kedgeree is best I have ever tasted. This is 3 rd time of staying & will definitely be back again.

Booked one night 'Romance' package with champagne and chocolates. Warm greeting. Given complimentary upgrade to suite upon arrival. Impressive range of rooms, everything just so. Enjoyed evening meal in Seafood restaurant followed by excellent breakfast in morning.Recommended!

My wife and I recently stayed with friends in the New Forest and went to the seafood restaurant in Stanwell House hotel for dinner . We had an excellent evening . We had a warm reception and friendly , efficient service throughout . The seafood menu was not extensive but full of interesting choices . I had Thai fish cakes followed by plaice cooked perfectly . We all really enjoyed our meals . And we discovered a great wine -La Roquette . A bit pricy , but none of us could recall drinking a better white wine ! All in all a surprisingly high standard of service from a three star hotel restaurant . Looking forward to the next time.

We stayed at Stanwell House for two nights while attending relatives wedding nearby. The welcome friendliness and helpfulness of the reception staff was outstanding as we have a lot of luggage booked 3 rooms.
Rooms where well decorated and although in some areas minor parts needed a bit of maintenance the overall quality was excellent. The only slight disappointment would be the power in the shower which is very poor compared with other Hotels I've stayed at, this is a minor inconvenience. The atmosphere in the hotel is of a nice quaint typically English boutique hotel in a fantastic location. Car parking is not available at the hotel but they have a private carpark behind the shops over the road. We didn't get chance 2 eat in the restaurant on the night but the quality of the breakfasts was excellent.
Value for money, Quality of service, atmosphere at all reasons why we would return to the hotel wouldn't hesitating recommending it.

Room Tip: We had three rooms in the Garden and all were excellent

I agree with the previous review. Service did seem muddled. We came away wondering why breakfast service was so slow. There appeared to be ample waiting staff, but no service. Coffee, tea and toast took a while,(a pet hate of mine) then a separate order process for breakfast. Which was so slow on Saturday morning, Sunday we were advised it would be slow and it wasn't too bad, we did have newspapers to read which helped.
That aside, we had a fantastic time, great location, great food, great service in the evenings, we ate Bistro and Seafood and both excellent.
The market stalls are set up outside in the street on Saturday very early (5am), so if you don't want this noise, ask for a room at the back of the hotel.
Room was lovely, 4 poster was very comfortable, bathroom good but no where to put your washbag, no hook on back of door. No fridge but when requested, ice bucket appeared very quickly indeed.
Not sure why reception greeted us as Mr + Mrs? far too presumptious I feel in this day and age. How does he greet same sex couples i wonder.
Would we return? Yes.

Room Tip: Choose one at back of hotel as market stalls are set up very early on a Saturday morning..

Cant understand the rave reviews for the food, had a very disapointing meal here last night. Staff were friendly but service was muddled with 3 other tables who like us had to remind staff of our order. Breakfast was however very good. Personally I would not stay again.

" Gorgeous food"
We have eaten many times at Stanwell House and they have managed to achieve something that a lot of other restaurants cannot, that is consistency!
The menu is not extensive however, there are two restaurants to choose from each with a different menu. We normally prefer to eat in the seafood restaurant which is situated at the front of the hotel with a pleasant view onto the high street. If you like seafood and fresh fish cooked to perfection then this is where to eat.
The Bistro restaurant is situated in the middle of the hotel just off the beautiful orangery where they have lovely comfortable seats to enjoy having a drink before heading into the restaurant where once again you will be presented with another menu offering a full selection including several different steaks which always seem to be cooked exactly as you request, accompanied by all the trimmings and the fresh vegetables, you simply cannot go wrong!

Fish restaurant or Bistro, the atmosphere is always lovely and all the staff from the reception through to the managers, they are all brilliant.
We always come away feeling that we have had a really nice night out and we are always looking forward to our next visit.
We would highly recommend Stanwells to anyone who likes good food served in a lovely setting by really nice people.
