Went to a wedding here in September and have to say what a lovely venue. Beautiful grounds and with the nice weather was an added bonus. The food was good but not exceptional. The wedding breakfast room had the wow factor. However the service was exceptional. All the staff treated you well and the Bride and Groom were put first, as it should be. The wedding co-ordinator for the day was a lady called 'Lynda Love'.(yes that is her real name) and was fantastic. She made sure all eventualities were covered and must have been there for 16 hours that day. Know its her job but was still smiling till the end. No mean feat i'm sure. Thanks to all the staff for making it such a wonderful day. Did not stay at this hotel so only rating the wedding not the rooms.

Usual great service from Macdonald staff. Very large room with additional bunkbed room. Breakfast good but evening meal at Steak Club restaurant mixed- scampi or gammon, good but pizza horrible and £9 for 3 small plain creme brulee (flavours indistinguishable) . Hotel within walking distance of Isle of Wight ferry. Spent sunny Sunday morning reading papers and watching hundreds of boats passing, whilst sat on benches provided at end of garden- take your binoculars.

Stayed 5 nights. Initial impression was not good. Polystyrene containers and cups floating in outdoor pool. Dirty towel stained with make up in bathroom. Refusal to accept valuables at hotel's risk despite the information booklet stating that the hotel would not accept responsibility for anything left in room but would issue a receipt for anything handed in at reception for safekeeping. For 3 days the marmalade at breakfast was in short supply and on the 4th day ran out. This was obviously going to happen. Could someone not have gone into a shop and bought some?
This was all unfortunate because our room was spacious, clean comfortable, the staff were efficient and friendly, the grounds were extensive and well kept and the food was good. We enjoyed our stay.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review placed on trip advisor. I was pleased to hear that overall you enjoyed your stay at the Resort.
Please accept my apologies for the refusal to accept valuables from our team, this is totally against our company policy as you rightly state in your review. We have retrained the entire reception and duty management team to avoid any further guest disappointment.
Please accept my apologies for the unusual downfall in standards you experienced, I have share these with our team and ensure that training is carried out to avoid further guest disappointments. I sincerely agree with the “marmalade situation” as this should have been dealt with before it ran out, we will ensure that we always have a spare jar to replace the empty one. We look forward to welcoming you back at the Resort in the not too distant future.

We have stayed at this hotel a couple of times and not been disappointed. Both times we have stayed in the chalets and had dinner in the hotel restaurant. The chalets are well spaced out and in nice grounds. They are on two levels the ones on the upper levels are quieter however if you have young children be careful, because some of the balcony railings are lose, mother had a ground floor chalet and started feeding the ducks that wandered round the grounds, after a couple of days she had about a dozen of them visiting it made her holiday. The rooms light and roomy but some need a little bit of touching up of the paint work before they begin to look tired. The gardens are well kept, I am surprised the hotel do not open up the bar in the main building when the weather is nice and make the most of the gardens and the view of the river.
It is a short walk from the hotel to the Isle of white ferry for a day trip. It is also worth a trip into Lymington on a Saturday for the street market which runs up both sides of the high street. It is about a 25-30 min walk or you can take the train to Lymington town then it’s a 10 min walk. We tend to walk up one side go to one of the tea vans at the top of the hill for a drink then wander into the church yard where there are seats away from crowds, then down the other side to the fish and chip shop for a takeaway to eat down by the harbour.
The food at the hotel is excellent as is the service this is well run with an efficient manager Linda Love in charge. It a little more expensive in the main restaurant but then the surroundings and service make it worthwhile. The wine and drinks are overpriced but am getting used to that as all the hotels in the chain seem to be expensive for drinks. The breakfast is in the bar above the pool, and you can see it being prepared as you order it which is a nice addition, at times it gets very busy but staff seamed to appear from everywhere at one point to help out which was amusing to watch the confusion but added to the fun of they stay.
I have noticed that there are a few complaints about the credit card surcharges at MacDonald’s hotels on some trip advisor reviews. I to find it frustrating especially as a regular user of the group and have suggested on many occasions the put the room rates up £1 a night and drop the charge. However when you look at the company details RBS have an interest in the hotels and as everyone knows banks are always trying to fleece everyone.

Dear guest,
Thank you for your review placed on the Trip Advisor website. It was a pleasure to read your feedback and how much you enjoyed our facilities, food and service.
The team always works at exceeding our guests expectations and I was delighted to read that you thoroughly enjoyed your short break.
On a personal note, I fully agree that we are so privileged to be situated in such a beautiful area with the Forest on one side and the Sea on the other. Also Lymington has so much to offer as a town, “best of both worlds” really.
Credit card charges are a common practice in our industry and are, unfortunately a passed on cost encountered by hotels and in our case it is not a lucrative charge however this does not apply to debit card charges and other method of payment.
We, hopefully will be welcoming you back very shortly.

We stayed 3 nights in one of the courtyard rooms. The room curtains were all torn down one side and the room did not contain a refridgator as stated on the website. The complimentary water is only for the first night. On the plus side the pool is good. Recommend the Wagon and Horses near Lymington pier (2 minutes drive) for a great meal rather than the on site steak house.

We further will be starting phase one of our refurbishment in October with 10 fully refurbished rooms including our 2 Suites. We will also change carpets and chairs in other bedrooms. Stayed one night with my wife on a late booking.
Nice hotel and grounds. Room good, breakfast very good.Staff excellent and very friendly.
Only one thing not happy about. When we checked out a £3 charged was made to the room bill as I was paying by credit card. Stayed in hotels all over the world and this was the first time I had been charged for using a Barclaycard credit card. Mentioned this to the receptionist who said she had stayed in many hotels and had been charged for using a credit card. No answer to that really.
Hotel group should scrap this charge as it is bad for their PR.
