“Blissful 60th birthday treat”
Reviewed 24 April 2014

We had a wonderful time at Elmers Court.

Our first contact was with the lovely gentleman on reception who was charming and so friendly. Our room was upgraded as it was my husbands 60th birthday and there was a lovely bowl of fruit in the room on arrival. We had been reserved a table for dinner overlooking the gardens and we were served complimentary champagne. All the staff were friendly and polite.

The food was delicious, the leisure facilities were extremely well kept.

I wont hesitate to come back as soon as I can to repeat the experience.

I personally think three star is harsh accommodation is very good standard of your rooms is good as well the grounds are stunning and the old manor house is great as with all MacDonald establishments the staff are second to none in their field our room wasn't ready when we turned up so free drinks while we waited.
I did notice they were stretched with breakfast on the first day but reinforments were on hand for the next day.

Please ignore negative reports we stay away a lot and really enjoyed it

We fancied a relaxing weekend in the new forest and I took some time searching for a good quality hotel that had spa facilities with a bit of luxury.

Having looked at the website for this hotel it looked just the ticket. nice old hotel , lovely grounds and promoting itself as a spa.

We paid extra for a superior exec room.....all the time thinking we would have a room in the lovely old building that is prominently featured in the pictures.

Have to say we were very disappointed upon arrival to be told we were staying in a chalet room in a collection of what looked like a holiday camp. Apparently all the rooms in the lovely old building were timeshare rooms and not for the hotel.

Ok the room we had a short walk away was nice.....but we would never have booked into a ground floor chalet room that looked out onto a grass square with chalets surrounding it. We were in a corner setting and any one walking past could look straight through the glass patio doors into the room......no privacy whatsoever!! in fact two children from another chalet stood right outside the room and stared in. Given what we spent on the weekend we were extremely disappointed and felt somewhat deceived by the website....we had assumed we would stay in the old building.

The other big downside and in line with the holiday camp feel...was the 'spa'......it was not possible to have a nice relaxing time in there as there were young families in there,,,,with kids jumping in and dive bombing....not very relaxing when you think one may land on your back!! The parents were there and lots of squealing and shouting.....ok....they were having a good time......but bit of a falsehood to claim it as a relaxing spa......holiday camp more like.....( I keep saying that as this was the general feel of the place) There were obligatory signs saying what you can and can't do but no attendants I did raise my concerns re heath & safety with one of the spa attendants who was upstairs. He was polite and advised that they could only watch on the monitor.....at the risk of being obvious ....I asked him if he could see them dive bombing ...why didn't he stop them from doing it?......he said he hadn't seen it. That's alright then no breaches of H&S if you don't see it. I did try to go for a swim another time but again it was kiddies play time.

Although breakfast was ok....having to wait for nearly 40 mins to receive it took the edge of the meal. I don't know why these large hotels don't have a hot breakfast buffet. So more efficient and faster than waiting for the waiting staff to take your order.

all in all a massive disappointment and basically not what it states on the tin.......got to say it one more time........more like a holiday camp than a luxury hotel spa!!

would not recommend (at those prices anyway) and would not revisit......I hope someone does not get hurt in the pool....but suspect it is an accident waiting to happen. If it does then this post would go some way to proving negligence!

Dear guest,

Thank you for your review on this website. I was sorry to read that on this occasion we could not meet your expectations.
Our hotel rooms are described on the website as “situated in their own Courtyard, a minute walk from our Manor House with a number of picture to ensure guests are made aware of it.
We are a Resort in the New Forest and as you can judge on Trip Advisor’s feedback during school holidays the vast majority of our guests are families with children who really enjoy the array of facilities we have to offer, however we have also adult only swimming in the morning and evening.
Regarding the indoor pool supervision although it does not have to be life guarded I will ask our Leisure manager to ensure action is taken if some guests are to be made uncomfortable by others inappropriate behaviour.
I was sorry to read that you felt it was not worth the rate you paid for and maybe a different time out of school holiday would be more suited for your liking.

Yours sincerely,

My husband and I stayed at Elmers Court Hotel over the weekend of 29th March
and spent a really relaxing and enjoyable stay. The weather was great too!
All the staff are an absolute credit particularly those in the restaurant and serving at breakfast with whom we had the most contact.
Our room was extremely comfortable, clean and very well furnished , serviced every day to a very high standard.
Parking is free and plentiful and the grounds are very well kept.
Situated in a great spot for exploring the local area and with good road connections to the New Forest and the coast.
Looking forward to our next visit!

Dissapointing and personally I found it overated and overpriced!!

Drinks in the bars were very expensive and the menu in the restaurant bore no resemblance to the menu's shown on the hotel website. These are extensive and very appetising and incidentally they are NOT shown as sample menu's with a number of vegetarian options and fish. The only non meat items for vegetarians on the menu when we were there were the same for three consecutive nights - brill and cous cous. Simply not good enough compared to the website menu's, which is why we ate elsewhere.

However on the upside the staff were very helpful and friendly and the rooms were nice, however I wouldn't stay there again, nor could I recommend it - unfortunately.

Thank you for your constructive feedback shared on trip advisor. Please accept my apologies for the issues you experienced with our Waterford menu. The sample menu are only to give our guests an idea of the Restaurant food concept however I have shared your comments with our newly recruited Head Chef and he will make it his priority to give our guests the best variety and quality of food to suit their expectations.
Thank you again for mentioning the team friendliness and professionalism as it makes a real difference for them to know that their efforts are appreciated.

I stayed at Elmers Court for a Spa weekend with a friend for her birthday and really cannot fault the service, rooms, food and facilities but what really made this a 5 star review are the staff who were all superb. I would recommend this hotel with out hesitation, we got an excellent deal for Dinner bed and breakfast which included a spa treatment and use of all the spa facilities.
