Just returned from a wonderful stay at Defoe with my husband and four very young children and it was total bliss. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and very comfortable and my two eldest children were lost in the enormous sofa bed! The breakfast provided in the kitchenette is delicious and super easy to prepare, the eggs from Vanessa's own chickens made the most beautiful sunshine yellow scrambled egg...my children ate 14 over the course of our two night stay! I had mentioned to Vanessa that this break was a treat for my husband's birthday and upon arrival there was an enormous chocolate birthday cake, complete with candles, waiting for us alongside the other goodies - we scoffed the lot and it was delicious. The accommodation is well located to explore the Forest, Lymington, Beaulieu and a wide variety of other local tourist attractions - or, if the weather is a little grey, you can stay in, put the kettle on and snuggle up with the kiddies and watch Mary Poppins and eat cake. We very much hope to return soon!
Our 4-member family stayed at Defoe house for a weekend getaway from the city. We found the distance between the capital and the Dafoe House to be ideal - at max, it is about a 2 hour drive, which is manageable.
As for the house itself, the scenery was beautiful - the scenery driving into the place, we saw beautiful forests, plains, and the village itself was that of the quintessential English class and elegance. Vanessa was a great and kind host, letting us stay very comfortably and warm, in addition to the great breakfast service provided which left us very happy and satisfied. The presence of animals, such as Donkeys, Horses and Cows around the area was very nice and made the trip very memorable. I would highly consider coming back here, and I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a getaway from the daily grind.
Upon arrival we were met with a friendly personal letter welcoming our family to our accomodation which we found to be spacious, clean & tidy and very warm and cosy.
Vanessa was away during our stay but took the time to check via text all was ok and if we needed anything.
The kitchenette was stocked with all we needed Milk, Tea, Coffee, Fruit Juice, home baked bread, bagels, brioche, home made preserves and smoked salmon & cream cheese and best of all a tin full of home made chocolate brownies.
We will definately be returning here and are worried if we leave to good a review it'll be fully booked !!

The location was very quiet and peaceful.
Short drive to some near by great locations. Like New Forest, Mudeford, Christchurch Quay which is worth a visit.
Lymington Town etc. The local pub to this location food is lovely but you do need to book a table.
Accommodation had everything you needed and plenty of space. A fantastic welcome and bread, cake and breakfast essentials.
Only thing I would say is the room could take a king size bed. What we are used to & need rather than a double.
We visit the area once a year for a mini break and would highly recommend it.
Some great memories and weather from this break.
Thanks for making it special.
I booked the annex for a weekend away with 3 friends for my 30th Birthday and it was the perfect location to get into lymmington and surrounding areas.
Vanessa was the perfect host, there if we needed her but not pushy at all! We loved our time in Norley Wood. Seeing all the Ponies and Donkeys wondering around was the icing on the cake!
We had 3 days at Defoe, a wonderfully warm welcome from Vanessa. Beautifully clean studio, fresh and neat. Yummy chocolate cake all ready on arrival, swiftly followed by a homemade loaf. Fridge stocked with fresh salmon, homemade jam and marmalade along with cream, milk and fresh juice. We were very spoilt, everything topped up daily. Lots of hot water, bed soft and so comfy. Vanessa and George very helpful with directions. Found lots of cycle tracks. Lovely village complete with 4 very friendly donkeys. Alfie and Gerald the dogs were sweet and playful. Only downside, we didn't book for longer.
We wanted something a little different from the usual places and boy did we find it.
A lovely b & b a couple of miles away from lymington and beaulieu.
It would have been a bit tricky to find if we hadn't been emailed a short video for the last quarter of a mile or so. Superb idea.
We could come and go as we pleased and Vanessa the owner was delightful.
Fantastic for a short break to unwind.
