Lovely stay in this New Forest annex. Fantastic home made breakfast, relaxing residence and great location.
Down a quiet lane the setting could not be more perfect. The welcome from the family was lovely, and the accommodation was lovely. A comfortable bed, a separate sofa, a dining table and chairs, a wardrobe and TV/DVD. The kitchenette is small but perfectly formed, and is stocked with yummy homemade goodies such as bread, jams and chocolate cake, and lucky for us, the hens had just started laying. Also a good supply of tea/coffee/milk/juice. The bathroom is large with a shower over the bath. We had such a lovely weekend - thanks Vanessa and family including the dogs! We can also recommend the East End Arms, which is a 5 minute drive away, or a short walk across the fields. The food and service were excellent, the only down side is the parking at the moment as the car park is closed so you have to park on a narrow lane. We hope to return sometime,
Just returned from a wonderful stay at Defoe with my husband and four very young children and it was total bliss. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and very comfortable and my two eldest children were lost in the enormous sofa bed! The breakfast provided in the kitchenette is delicious and super easy to prepare, the eggs from Vanessa's own chickens made the most beautiful sunshine yellow scrambled egg...my children ate 14 over the course of our two night stay! I had mentioned to Vanessa that this break was a treat for my husband's birthday and upon arrival there was an enormous chocolate birthday cake, complete with candles, waiting for us alongside the other goodies - we scoffed the lot and it was delicious. The accommodation is well located to explore the Forest, Lymington, Beaulieu and a wide variety of other local tourist attractions - or, if the weather is a little grey, you can stay in, put the kettle on and snuggle up with the kiddies and watch Mary Poppins and eat cake. We very much hope to return soon!
Our 4-member family stayed at Defoe house for a weekend getaway from the city. We found the distance between the capital and the Dafoe House to be ideal - at max, it is about a 2 hour drive, which is manageable.
As for the house itself, the scenery was beautiful - the scenery driving into the place, we saw beautiful forests, plains, and the village itself was that of the quintessential English class and elegance. Vanessa was a great and kind host, letting us stay very comfortably and warm, in addition to the great breakfast service provided which left us very happy and satisfied. The presence of animals, such as Donkeys, Horses and Cows around the area was very nice and made the trip very memorable. I would highly consider coming back here, and I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a getaway from the daily grind.
Upon arrival we were met with a friendly personal letter welcoming our family to our accomodation which we found to be spacious, clean & tidy and very warm and cosy.
Vanessa was away during our stay but took the time to check via text all was ok and if we needed anything.
The kitchenette was stocked with all we needed Milk, Tea, Coffee, Fruit Juice, home baked bread, bagels, brioche, home made preserves and smoked salmon & cream cheese and best of all a tin full of home made chocolate brownies.
We will definately be returning here and are worried if we leave to good a review it'll be fully booked !!
