The Angel & Blue Pig

Reviewed 27 April 2014

We stayed here in 2012 and had a lovely positive experience. So, when back in Lymington, we decided to go back for a drink and maybe something to eat, as the food previously was very good.

Upon entering the bar which had very few people in, the bar man told us to go round the back to the other side of the bar, which we did. We stood there looking at each other for maybe two,or three minutes, then left, as obviously whatever the batman was doing, it was more important that serving customers. They must be doing awfully well to be able to turn down business. Not goo. However, the bar was just as nice as we remembered.

We enjoyed our weekend break and the Angel was the centrepiece of it. Warm welcome, well decorated bedroom and the pub was lively without being overly so. Our evening meal here was really good, the menu had a good variety of dishes to choose from and my partner and I really enjoyed all courses, no problems. Service attentive but informal. Sooo much better than the mistake we made on the second night going to a local fine dining restaurant, it was awful!

It is an old building and right on the high street, so expect some noise from the street and fellow guests, plus cranky windows and hard to use keys. But for me that was part of its charm.

Will be staying there again.

Fantastic break in Lymington at the Angel and Blue Pig. Centrally placed on the high street, this unique hotel oozes charm and old fashioned service. Lovely rooms with nice little touches of welcome goodies including chocolates and lovely shortbread. Excellent dinner in restaurant, clearly the chef selects good quality produce.Looking forward to our next visit sooner rather than later. Many thanks to all at the Pig

Room Tip: For good sleep a room at the rear would be better

We stayed at the Angel and Blue Pig for one evening last week, just ahead of the Easter bank holiday. The service we received was of the very highest standard throughout. The room was beautifully furnished and a great size for 2 adults and a child. The location is obviously ideal for visiting shops, tea rooms and the harbour. We ate in the hotel restaurant and the food was very good, service very friendly and efficient. All of the staff we encountered were very warm and genuine - we had a really great stay and will definitely look to return for longer in the summer.

Room Tip: High street location means front views are of the pretty high street but obviously means some low le...

We stayed for a weekend at the beginning of April following a previous stay at this traditional pub/hotel after falling for it some years ago, and were not disappointed.

The hotel has its own very close/convenient and secure (coded gate) car-park, in which we found a space easily.

Following a recent refurbishment, this popular hotel has just gone from strength to strength. The attention to detail in the restyling of the establishment is quite remarkable - you really feel like you are are being spoiled! Room decor is quirky and stylish with a real sense of quality. The room was spotless. Guest freebies are generous - our room included a range of teas/good quality coffee (cafetiere), hot chocolate, luxury chocolates, shortbreads and plenty of milk!

The bar area can get quite busy at lunchtime, so its worth allowing some time to get yourself a table if you plan on eating during the day. We reserved a table for the evening, whilst booking, and were glad we did, as the restaurant is also incredibly popular. We highly recommend the duck skewer starter.

The ambience is just perfect, in both the bar and restaurant areas - the proprietors have got this just right; we even had live jazz music playing throughout lunch!

The only downside is that a full english breakfast is not included in the price of the room, only a continental one. This would have to be pre-booked at an additional cost. We think they've missed a trick here, as i noticed quite a few guests looking longingly at our full plates in the morning!

We cannot wait to return to this absolute gem of a find!

Room Tip: Dont choose a room overlooking the High Street if staying on a Fri night, as the market stallholders...

Six of us went to the Angel and Blue Pig for lunch. We were warmly welcomed and shown to a most pleasant window table overlooking the rear courtyard. I had not been to the Angel since before their makeover. What an improvement! The decorations are in keeping with this old coaching inn and the bar area is extremely comfortable. The menu was interesting and the food was well presented and very tasty. The wine list is good and some of us particularly enjoyed their own beer brewed for them by our local Ringwood Brewery. The staff were friendly and efficient. We could not have had a better lunch and are looking forward to another visit.
