We stayed here for a night last week to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and thought it was great. The building itself still has a lot of its original character which the owners have tried to keep - uneven (but well maintained) floors and walls, maze-like feel as you get to your room etc. It all adds to the experience.

Our room, which was at the top of the hotel, was nicely decorated with a feature wall decorated in beautiful wallpaper. The lighting and furnishings were in keeping with this period property. The bathroom, aside from being very large, was clean and well maintained.

We slept pretty well, though it was pretty noisy because the room next door had the TV on VERY loud. As the room was at he front of the hotel I was a little worried about the traffic noise, but in the end it was a non-issue as we slept through it once our neighbour went to sleep.

So to summarise, I'd say the best points were the decor/character of the hotel, the bedroom and bathroom size, the very friendly staff, and the flexibility - we didn't have to check until 11am.

Any niggles? Finding the official car park wasn't easy (you have to drive round the back)

This place really delivers. We received a warm welcome and were more than happy when we were shown into our super king room, which was very generously proportioned and tastefully furnished. The decor is a subtle blend of old and new and we loved the carved angel wings mounted on the wall near the bed. We were also impressed with all of the little extras such as a decent hairdryer, a Roberts radio, quality bedding and lighting and White Company toiletries. We ate here in the evening and the food was delicious. Breakfast didn't disappoint either. The whole place has a very relaxed feel and the staff are extremely accommodating. Even though it's on a busy high street and the rooms are above the bar, we still managed a good night's sleep as the bed was so comfortable and there was scarcely any traffic on the high street between midnight and 8am. We love the relaxed comfort of places like this and have no doubt that we will stay here again.

The owners of the Angel and Blue Pig have done a great job and, overall would not complain if it hadn't been for the fact they emailed a customer survey after our visit but have heard no response since. The points mentioned were minor but would make a difference such as fab cafetiere's in the bedrooms but over cooked hot plate coffee at breakfast. Breakfast finished at, what I consider to be an early time for people away for a weekend break and as we arrived near the finish of breakfast there was a fairly moth eaten supply on the buffet. The eggs benedict which has a glorious photo on their website had hollandaise anorexia with a mere swipe on top of the poached eggs and with only one member of staff assisting when all rooms had been booked, he seemed hurried and a bit stressed. Although a gastropub the rooms are good value but not cheap. The beds and lovely cotton sheets were great as was the added touch of a welcome basket with cookies and decent bottled water and generous bathrobes. I would return but would not recommend the rooms on the upper floor which are accessed by numerous stairs. Although an old building the front bedrooms overlooking the high street could definitely benefit from double glazing and the area used as reception for checking in and out is just a serving door on the side of the bar which gives little room to attend to paperwork given is at the bottom of the staircase which has door opening directly to the only area you can stand to pay your bill. Lovely terrace at the back and good to have parking at the rear too. The entry pad is tricky and could do with bolder numbers and the enter button which I couldn't find - trying four times to enter the car park with cars building up behind me. That said would come back and have recommended it to friends and family.

Room Tip: High street facing rooms nice and light but noisier

Superb location right on Lymington High Street but with private parking...what a result! Rooms are beautifully decorated and spacious - the fresh milk and home baked biscuits are a nice touch. Yes there is noise from the main road if you have a room at the front of the hotel and yes the floorboards creak but neither are intrusive and I would rather a bit of character than the sterility of a chain hotel. Our evening meal was exceptional value for money and our waiter's wine knowledge incomparable. Thoroughly enjoyable albeit brief stay.

I had a lovely dinner on a Saturday evening in April with a friend which was great with good food and good service. I then went back with my family during the same week to enjoy another fabulous evening that was had by all. I would recommend eating here and will be going back soon I hope.
