It is in a great spot, the food is reasonable pub grub particularly if you go for the roast dinner.which is nice.

Don't do if you have children even if well behaved as ours actualy is. The landlord doesnt like them. After many visits with low level unfreindliness and unelpfulness that I have overlooked it the last time was just too blatent getting a laugh from his mates while saying to his dog theres lunch for you today while pointing at my 3yo. If he had even looked our way as he said it I might have accepted it with a laugh as the dog seems freindly enough but we didn't warrent even a glance as we were not his sailing or rugby clique just people who he thinks will spend our money there even if he is rude.

Dont go if you want a clean toilet - or worry that pubs that don't keep their loos clean dont keep their kitchens clean.

Don't go if you are two 40something ladies out for a chat and catch up in the winter when the pub is empty except for a few of landlords freinds - not welcome if you disturb his chat to order a drink.

He rakes the cash in so he isn't bothered about people like me and it is just so obvious.

We eat and drink here regularly, I guess that says it all as I'm really fussy about pubs.

If you want modern cuisine and decoration this place is not for you. If however you value atmosphere and a bit of quirkiness then you'll like the place.

The pub dog d4 is big and does occasionally bark at other dogs, there is a clear warning sign about this as you enter and he is part of the charm.

Have visited occasionally over many years. Had very mediocre food here on Friday night. Returned for a drink only on Saturday night. Our dogs were attacked by the 'pub dog' as we walked in & then we were 'attacked ' by the very large & very rude landlord. Then some 'regulars' who looked as though they had been there all day joined in. Altogether a very unpleasant experience & will no longer be using this pub.

The staff, particularly the owner, were extremely unfriendly and the food was overpriced and uninspiring. The main room of the pub was very cosy and welcoming but we were shoved into a draughty and empty side room. Service was slow and charmless. Very disappointing.

Ok; it was Monday evening, so not the best night to order fish, but as it's clearly their speciality, my husband chose Cornish sole from the ‘specials’ board. It was rubbish!l Not fresh and overcooked, with a back taste. The squid starter was tough and cooked in old oil, served with limp salad and soggy powdery tomato. The chicken in my Ceasar salad tasted of the same old oil and had the mysterious back taste. We were seated in a poky corner table next to an open stable door on a freezing cold evening in an entirely empty restaurant. It was crap!
