I'm not surprised that this pub is a Marmite pub. Those of us that like the place just love it, clearly there are those that don't. More fool those that don't

There seem to be a fair mix of reviews on here so I approached with some trepidation. However these concerns were not well founded. The beer (and choice) was excellent. The food was very good as well.

It does seem to be quite a locals pub and very dog friendly too. (In fact probably too many dogs for my personal taste, but hey ho.)

I noticed they were sticklers for licensing laws - so don't send your youngster to the bar to get served. But probably more places should play things strictly by the book.

Tucked away down a quiet lane with easy access to walks by the water front. A very characterful place and one I'd happily go back to another time.

It would be nice to have been able to review the quality of food and service... but we never got that far. I phoned last Saturday afternoon to book a table for four, the phone was answered by a man who simply said in a less than obliging voice "we're very busy, I can't talk to you, you'll have to phone back tomorrow" needless to say, I didn't call back... In fact I probably won't ever call back...

exactly what it says on the tin , good pub grub at very reasonable prices .....
When a lot of pubs are punching above their weight trying to sell over priced meals that don't deliver! The chequers is still selling beer snacks ie: burger and chips, ribs and chips etc, just what's needed on a Saturday afternoon.
Thanks for the feed and will be back again

Chequers is in a narrow lane on the outskirts of Lymington close to the coastal path and is a charming old building with courtyard and garden

With some trepidation I tried my first beer. This pub is not in the Good Beer Guide nor Cask Marque accredited so the signs were not encouraging, and as the Ringwood Best was "off at the moment" I reluctantly asked for Sharp's Doom Bar. Before Sharps sold out to Coors this used to be a fine pint but is now generally pretty poor and in a pub that can't serve a decent pint it was diabolical - and left unfinished. Return to the bar and Ringwood Best is back on - a new barrel so it must be OK ? But sadly no, another dull and curiously unpleasant pint that again I couldn't finish. In the end a pint of Guinness was the last resort and at least drinkable

The food ? Plastic laminated menus might be OK in a corner cafe but are always off-putting in a pub. Between us we had fish and chips (frozen fish and grim chips) and a couple of salads (salmon/prawn and goats cheese) All edible but quite average

And I wouldn’t disagree with other comments about the bar staff being miserable and unwelcoming
