“Slightly Snooty Pub Popular with Locals”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2014 via mobile

We visited this pub twice during our week-long break in Lymington, as it was just around the corner. The food was very good, with immense (but too large) food portions. Don't order a starter each - agree on one between the two of you.

At dinner, I had the excellent, tender pork belly, while our friends had the yummy lamb shanks and the barbecued pork ribs. Everyone enjoyed their dinner and the service from our Kiwi server was friendly and polite.

The pub appears to have a large local clientele, which is a good sign. However, this means that visitors and tourists get somehow treated as second-best. Read similar views here in TripAdvisor in this regard. I will not good so far as they did. There was no rudeness at all, but there is definitely a slight snooty air and the faint impression that we really don't need you tourists here, as long as we have our steady local trade.

Maybe a little awareness training here and a change of attitude would help. This has to be led from the top.

“Excellent food and friendly staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014

My husband and I were camping locally and strolled to this pub for an evening meal. Lots to dishes to choose from on the menu, and varied price range, but we opted for the Sirloin Steaks, served with vegetables and new potatoes, it was delicious and was a good size. Had planned on having a desert, but were full up. Price was £14.95 which was very reasonable given the size of the steak. Would recommend.

“Nice and welcoming”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

We have been here every time we have camped locally. This time with 2 children. The food was great fish pie special fantastic and we were made to feel welcome. Beer good and cider selection even better. It's a busy pub and has its own character.

“Great grub and blast from the past”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

Great pub in a quiet location just outside of Lymington. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to get to.
We had a great lunch there with drinks and food for under £20 for 2 people.

I am, of course, a returning Chequers fan, mainly because my mum used to work there (??? years ago) and my dad/dads friends would frequent the place quite regularly.

We also visited a few years ago when staying at Hurst View camping site and don't have a bad word to say. Definitely recommend.

“Visitors to The Chequers Inn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2014

I was at the Chequers Inn on 14th July. It was fantastic to see our visitors return for another Summer in the New Forest. So, I am unsure as to why Nicki N posted Unwelcome. This has never happened in all the Years I have been visiting the Chequers. I guess you can't please everyone all the time!
