“Out of date”
Reviewed 21 March 2013 via mobile

Stayed in a few hotels in the last couple of months and I have to rate this one as the worst. Good points....the staff and the grounds. Bad points......out of date, needs an upgrade. Bar snack menu is priced way to high, spag bowl is £12. Floorboards creek with every movement. Tv in room in deeper than it is wider. Wifi is slack and slow. Not the greatest although still liveable.

Stayed here this weekend , for my fathers 80 birthday party . All staff were very friendly and helpfull , rooms were dated and a bit tired But very comfortable , breakfast was very good .
18 of my family stayed here and really enjoyed the stay , it's not 5 star but for £50 a night well worth every penny .

We have stayed here two or three times a year for the last 5 years and have to say that the service and the food is always second to none. Sure some of the communal areas are showing signs of wear and tear, but the lounge/bar is comfortable with a log fire and the bedrooms are warm and quiet. Just right for a good nights sleep.
The staff are always welcoming and seem genuinely pleased to see us. One of the ladies even remembered that we were a week later than we normally are in December.
If you want an impersonal hotel with no character then book in at a Premier Inn, but for the warmth of welcome, food and general atmosphere you won't beat the Parkhill.

If you want a modern hotel this is not for you, but if like us you prefer excellent service and superb food then this is for you. It is clean, well staffed, quiet and has grounds to die for. We went for an auction being held in the Barn (a large function room adapted from (you've guessed) a barn and our stay was perfect. The grounds were immaculate - there was a wedding whilst we were there and the arrangements could not have been better.

On arrival, it wasn't clear where to park to get to the reception, however, the property looks nice on approach & the grounds are beautiful.

The reception area is very dated, however the staff are friendly and helpiul.

We stayed there because we had been invited to a wedding and the reception was in the Barn at Parkhill.

Our suite was okay -but definately in need of refurbishing! The bed very was comfy & the bed linen was lovely & clean. Also had a new big flat screen TV.

The tiles around the window in the bathroom were cracked and you needed to walk around in the shower to get wet and the bathroom door didn't close without a bit of brute force!!

Breakfast was nice - but was an additional cost (Service Excellent).

There was no hairdryer, flannels or iron (we always take our own).

If I was to attend a function again at this venue, I would stay again.

Stayed here for a wedding. Our first reaction was awful, musty smell, old tired, reception area in wrong place. (I should have known this as the web site is dire and in need of a make over!)

We had travelled along way and just wanted to relax drink in bar and a meal in the restaurant. But were told that the restaurant was not open and only bar food was available!!! I did look at menu and it was just that.... pub food. I was extremely put out that a restaurant could be closed, the reason given was they were doing something in the kitchen (which I assume was to do with the other party that was taking place in the Marquee the following evening).

The room on first looking was also awful wall paper coming off wall, tiles in bathroom coming away. Wires hanging from tv, just old and tatty. I never take a hairdryer as I expect in a hotel of this standard – to have one. But no there wasn’t. But we were provided one at reception straight away.

Would we stay there again? No. We came to the conclusion that the owners concentrate on the wedding events there which was a choice of Marquee and a beautiful barn. So actually if you are going to a wedding you would obviously would rather stay there, so they dont have to really make the place look great as they know you will stay there!!

Positives well the cooked breakfast was great and the scrambled egg was great. But I did expect some fruit and yogurts on the side. I asked for a croissant and it came heated and pretty awful.

It just needs bringing into the 21st century and it would be a fantastic place to stay as a short break, as the grounds are fantastic and the Barn was lovely for a small wedding.

Needs the hotel inspector!!

Such a shame as the owner was pleasant enough.

The whole thing was just a little unprofesional.

Room Tip: After talking to others I think they are all the same!

We had a spacious room with a comfortable bed and two very comfortable armchairs. We have stayed at 'modern' hotels on our last few breaks but Parkhill reminded us what hotel service should be like. The food was superb with the best steak we have ever tasted (and believe me we have had a few).
Breakfast again was great, so many hotels go for this serve yourself system, Parkhill didn't so the food and beverage piping hot.
