Owner description: Explore the sights and sounds of Africa and discover lions, giraffes, rhinos, meerkats, hunting dogs and many more animals from the African continent. The spectacular centrepiece of Africa Alive!, our "Plains of Africa" paddock, is the perfect place to spot 5 species of African savannah animals, including our graceful giraffe and heavyweight rhinos. Enjoy a bird's eye view of our magnificent lions from "Lookout Lodge", and visit "Lemur Encounters", which gives you the chance to get incredibly close to our ring-tailed lemurs as you walk through their enclosure! Bird lovers can also enjoy spotting native species from our new "Wader's Lake Boardwalk". Discover some amazing facts about our animals during our exciting feeding talks and seasonal Bird of Prey displays. Climb aboard the free Safari Roadtrain for an entertaining journey around the Park. Look, learn and play in our fun-packed Discovery Centre and meet some of our smaller residents at the animal encounter sessions. The park offers a great outdoor adventure play area, as well as restaurants, free car parking, disabled facilities and a gift shop where you can find souvenirs and gifts for everyone - including yourself! Open daily at 9.30am all year, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. For admission prices and closing times please check our website

We visited Africa Alive as the children nagged. Quite pricey but we knew this beforehand and used our tesco clubcard vouchers. Was able to get close to the animals, but a long walk round be prepared for moaning about legs and feet aching. We used the restaurant near the arena for lunch and it was amazing, hand rolled pizzas were delicious, plenty of tuna on the jacket, homemade coleslaw, definately surprised as we presumed the food would be below par but what you expect from an attraction. Not badly priced either. The animal talks and feeding were good and staff were friendly.

+ A considerable variety of animals.
+ A quiz to keep the youngsters engaged.
+ Refreshments reasonably priced.
+ Safari experience enjoyed.
+ Friendly and helpful staff

- baby changing facilities too limited

With only one minor point which didn't spoil our day, I'd recommend this venue.

Great value for money as there is so much stuff to do here. There were lots of animals for everyone to look at, quite a few of them id never seen before. There is a train that takes you round the whole park. There are talks and feeds for some of the animals which are good although they do get quite busy so get there well before it starts. At the ends you get a hands on experience to hold the guinea pigs which the children will enjoy. There were african dancers and singers which were incredible and made you laugh a lot! They got everybody involved and even got some of the children to come up and dance with them. The restaurnt food was average, it was a very warm day but there were hardly any places to sit outside so we had to sit inside, also they messed up our order and didnt bring out two peoples food so we had to go and ask for it again. They were doing a thing for children where they had to go and collect stamps around the park and got a medal at the end which kept the children intrested. There was a jeep that you could go on around the park but was very expensive so we didnt go on it. The play area was good for children. There was a lot of stuff in the gift shop at the end that wasnt too expensive. Was good value for money seeing as we spent the whole afternoon there! Overall I really enjoyed this day out and would highly recommend families to go.
